Re: 26 foot catalina open water?

I have made that trip six times but only once did I try it straight through. It didn't work that time as I ran out of wind.

I suggest that you leave Fort Myers a day early and spend the night in...

Smile Re: Trailer brake fire!

Here is a list of things that I have found wrong with disc type brakes on varying equipment.

Your specific problem was most likely a damaged hose leading to the caliper that didn't release. They...

Re: Copper plate found on hull...

I have a somewhat larger plate electrically bonded with #9 copper wire to the standing rigging. It's obviously intended for lightning protection.

Re: Old Honda 7.5 prop help needed

I understand. I spent two days in the north end of Matanzas Pass waiting for the wind to come around so that I could sail to within paddle distance. Fishing and sleeping is also part of...

Re: Old Honda 7.5 prop help needed

It was an epoxy of some sort. Originally it was vulcanized in but they said that they used a special kit for it. I suspect that any prop shop (a pretty common establishment in the shallow water...

Re: Old Honda 7.5 prop help needed

It was bonded together when made. The repair was $35.00 in 2010 when mine went bad.

Burris Prop Repair in Fort Myers fixed mine. Head for your local yellow pages.

Re: How : Diesel lines without lift pump ?

Some setups include the lift pump within the injector pump. ( two or even three stage pump) If your priming pump is located on the injection pump that is probably what you have. There are many...

Re: Largest Trailerable Sailboat

First, considering the nature of boats and the nature of highways the limitations are more likely to be imposed by the various state highway commissions than by boating parameters.

First figure...

Re: replacing Bomar hatch in 1979 Seafarer 23

I found a hatch that was a half inch narrower in a salvage place. Then I reduced the size of the port by 1/4" on each side and got on with the program.

Re: sailing boca grande

Yes, I have found three sailing buds or belles there. One not so good, one pretty good, and one that I spent a couple months sailing with. Also post a sign at all the senior centers and athletic...

Re: sailing boca grande

John, I'd also try the personals in Ft. Myers, Punta Gorda, and Cape Coral. I have had fair luck there.

Re: Collecting Rain water

On the East coast US. rainwater is often not fit to drink. Acid rain and other pollutants are in most small thunderstorms. After a pretty good rain the atmosphere cleans up along with your sails. I...

Re: 1GM10 won't run over ~2500rpm

Rocketer, you are over propped, or have a plugged exaust. If a diesel smokes more than briefly it's being overloaded. This will either "tulip" the valves or put a hole in the piston sooner or...

Re: Need tips on moving a small wooden Catspaw Dinghy from R.I. to CA

Try U-Haul if you are driving. It would also fit in a full size van. Lots of ways to skin a small boat. A car trailer also would work. Depends a lot on what else has to go and the money availiable...

Re: Mast-attached winch problem

Most Auto Parts stores stock "Heli Coils". I'd investigate those first. If you have a suitable place for them they are better than new. For instance they are used extensivly in aluminum cylinder...

Re: fuel pump repairs

They are not taboo. The difficulties are largely the high degree of cleanliness required and since they fail pretty rarely parts aren't easily availiable.

In the last 50 years I have never had...

Re: 1977 ODAY Repowering options Questions

I have a Yamaha 8 hp out board. It is satisfactory and will push the 29 footer against about 25 knot winds (barely). To keep the prop in the water is the biggest trouble with this setup.

Re: oh oh water pump

Just a little note on antifreeze.

Some brands are "pre mixed". You can run these at 100%. Some brands are essentially pure ethylene glycol with some additives. DO NOT run these at more than...

Re: Why don't boats have headlights?

I set one up but the fog off the water made it worse than none at all. That was on the Calusahatchee River wanting to see daymarks into channel. Maybe a different color or polarizing would help but...

Re: If you scuttle your boat, will insurance pay?

I only carried liability insurance. If you can't afford to lose your boat then it's irresponsible to expect somebody else to.
