Re: Vagabond and Westwind Sailboats

Apologies for not posting, but we are making progress and have not been ignoring questions. I’ve been trying to hold off until I could post a beginning to end project, but we keep ending up bouncing...

Re: Marine Head Suggestions for long term cruising

Yes, we have 2 heads already. So one will be replaced with an Airhead. The other will be a manual marine head with a y-valve that, God willing, will only be turned to the holding tank when in port...

Re: Marine Head Suggestions for long term cruising

Airhead composting and DD with a dummy tank for legal issues for us. Use airhead in port and DD out to sea.

Re: Is it possible to afford the sailing lifestyle while working an ocean-type job?

Ditto this. Get proof that you know how to sail/navigate and hire on as crew. It doesn't always require a four year degree.

Re: beached, for now

No need for a back yard hole - there is a deep bluff there already.

Is this a major resto? Oh yes -3 years worth, but counting down. See...

Re: beached, for now

Nice to meet you neighbor,

We are currently in TN also, near Jamestown, and are locally famous for having a 42 foot sailboat parked in the front yard for restoration. We drew quite a crowd when...

Re: Cracks on deck? C&C

Welcome!
As for a 33 foot boat cruising the ocean, many are quite capable. A good source for info about sea worthy cruising boats is. Sailboat Reviews of Offshore Cruising Yachts :...

Re: Vagabond and Westwind Sailboats

We have never heard of Sea Chief Yacht Co of Taiwan. We also have never run across anything to suggest that any Vagabonds were built at a different/more than one yard - that doesn't mean they...

Re: Vagabond and Westwind Sailboats

This is our current focus. The plywood squares were bedded and surrounded by resin and filler (looks and sands like silica, but not sure). We took up the deck skin to make sure the core was sound...

Re: Vagabond and Westwind Sailboats

We have not yet tackled the aft head. We considered what you have proposed and think it is a very viable option, but we didn't want to be dependent on only one head and wanted to have a guest head. ...

Re: Vagabond and Westwind Sailboats

One of our recent projects has been the revamp/repair of the forward head. We knew the aft head had issues with rotting flooring when we bought Gypsy. We erroneously blamed a leaking chainplate. ...

Re: Vagabond and Westwind Sailboats

It rains enough here in the southeast US to make it difficult to open a boat's deck, dry, and repair it before it gets rained on and re-soaked. We were in fear of attacking this job until we found...

Re: Vagabond and Westwind Sailboats

Helimech, glad to hear the v-berth floors are nearly done. That is one project we won't have to tackle on Gypsy in the near future. All of her floors, with exception of the aft head appear to be...

Re: Vagabond and Westwind Sailboats

We have exposed all but 2 - distracted by other projects. We won't be cutting our chainplates out completely. We just need access to the bolts and to inspect them. We are planning to move the...

Re: Vagabond and Westwind Sailboats

I feel your pain. Our decks would have been in pretty good shape if not for the leaks related to the bowsprit. Poseidon has smiled on us though as we have removed the top skin of the foredeck...

Re: Vagabond and Westwind Sailboats

Helimech,

Love the Battery box job. We have been planning a similar modification to gain better access to the front of the engine. Great spot for the starter battery too. We were considering...

Re: Tropical Storm Gonzalo... Ooops!
