Help pinpointing a leak

I can't see the pics on my iPhone app, but check your stuffing box. Mine was dripping about once a second when the boat was launched this year, and I was amazed how much water built up in a short...

Wheel Pilot Control Head - Where to place?

I'll advocate for putting it on the bulkhead, under the dodger. It sure is nice to steer from a sheltered position on the nasty days.

I live just across the bridge from Newport, and I'm pretty sure people from providence think that Newport and Bermuda are the same place, just some island off the coast. Just like to us, Providence...

Your boat isn't in Jamestown, is it? There is a Pearson next to my boat getting a makeover.

Ever been injured on your boat? Just happened to me.

Nothing major for me, but at work we frequently get called out to meet an inbound boat with some kind of injury aboard. The one that sticks in my mind: the skipper of a 40+ foot sloop got his hand...

Hello from Botswana

The Olympic classes for 2016 are the Finn, 470, 49er, and Laser. Also the nacra 17 for multi-hull and the rs:x sailboard.

You might want to check out Sail Newport, which is a very successful...

Re: Summer 2013 New England SailNet Rendezvous

Hey everyone,

I've been following this thread for a while, and it gave me the perfect excuse to plan a trip to the Vineyard. You can count me in, I've reserved a mooring with the Edgartown...

Chapter 1: Our first cruise

Good write up. You might look up how to tie a rolling hitch. Allows you to tie a line above the winch, relieve the tension, and clear the override. That's something that will happen again.

Newport Folk Festival

I don't know of any exclusion zone. The only thing I've ever been told when I'm anchoring there is to not tie up to the seawall. Last year we went over to anchor and ended up just sailing circles...

Surveyours by State / Region

I've used William Coble out of North Kingstown, RI a couple of times. I've always been very satisfied with his reports. I can PM you his contact information if you're interested. I'm pretty sure he...

Newport Folk Festival

The anchorage will be packed, and will be a total s!?t show in my opinion. Moorings in the harbor are first come, first served, so most will be gone a day or two early. Your best bet might be to find...

Hi liveaboard Islander 32

Hey Jamie,
I sail out of Clark boat yard on the east side of Jamestown. Maybe I'll see you out this summer. Where do you keep the boat?

Raw Water Cooled for 35 Years?

My 1978 San Juan had the original yanmar raw water cooled diesel in it. That engine ran like a top. I never had one issue with it, besides a problem caused by some bad fuel. As long as it is...

The last 3ft (mast work)

Shouldn't be a problem. But you do have to stand up in the foot straps and kind of get up out of the seat to get over the mast head. The last few feet can be tough because the ascenders on the ATN...

Moving a boat from east coast to west coast via Mexico?

Having driven across Mexico, I can imagine transporting a 30' sailboat would be something like that ice road truckers show. The roads suck, the authorities suck, and the mountains are big near the...

Battery Charger AC Wiring Question

That will definitely void the warranty. You could make an extension with a female plug end that would connect to the breaker panel.

Yanmar inition switch Lightings

If I remember the panel from my old boat correctly, the three indicator lights are for the charging circuit, oil pressure, and water temp. When you turn the key on, the charging and oil lights should...

Climbing the mast

Just FYI, you can put together your own ATN setup for about half the price from REI or any other outdoor sports shop. It's simply a harness and Prussik setup, and I'd use that over the mast steps...

James Bond sailboat for sale

Listed as a ketch, but, is it? With the larger mast aft, isn't it a Schooner? I might be wrong, and regardless, beautiful!!
