Re: Which batteries for us?

I've had good luck with golf cart batteries of 1200 Ahrs going on 13 years now. However, there is one weak cell so it might be time to think about replacing the bank. I say bank because I treat it as...

Re: Best Coastal Cruiser under 37 ft

GTJ,
I'll wager those PHRF numbers are based on the older design that raced in a few races. I bought a gennaker several years ago but haven't used it yet as we make good progress when the wind turns...

Re: Best Coastal Cruiser under 37 ft

Check out a Gozzard 37. They have eliminated the main sheet in the cockpit. Since they are a redesigned G36 they have a taller mast, semi-balanced rudder, and new underbody for decidedly better...

Re: Keeping fresh water from fouling

Lancelot

Don't add the non-toxic 'pink stuff' thinking it kills bacteria. Some brands do contain some alcohol but not enough to be useful.

Re: 28.5 1972 Irwin center board

Fix it! I replaced the SS pennant a couple of times due to corrosion. That was before strong synthetics were on the scene.

Re: Gozzard 31 vs Pacific Seacraft 31?

Re: Gozzard 31 vs PS 31...

Gozzard is building a re-designed G31 this winter for a repeat customer.
Performance should be improved with a more powerful rig.
Perhaps there is a trend to smaller...

Re: another how 2 clean 20 years of grime off mast?

If your mast is anodized try WD-40. It's very easy to apply, removes dirt and leaves a little shine. Simple.

Re: Sandy. Glen Cove Brewers

Sorry, I just came across this thread.
I also am at Brewers in Glen Cove living in NYC and since power and phones were down for days there was no way to know how big a hit the marina took.
Though...

Re: Non-OEM Oil Filters

Zeehag,

Consider yourself lucky. Sierras are found in West Marine, Napa, and chandleries. My Westerbeke P/N was printed on the Sierra label. They were even the same price. What could go wrong? Bad...

Re: Non-OEM Oil Filters

RichH,

I think you're right about the filter not being tight enough but I wasn't going to try a third time! And there's no telling what the gasket is made of, or the hardness, of the Sierra.

I...

Non-OEM Oil Filters

I've always used Westerbeke oil filters for the 12 oil changes on my 82B except for the last change. Used the correct cross-referenced Sierra filter (with Westerbeke P/N on the label). I always hand...

Re: Shannon 28 versus Caliber 33

As Bob Perry says: any small boat less than 100' can be uncomfortable offshore.
There are many other reasons to chose either the Shannon or Caliber - both are seaworthy.

Re: Engine seawater pump rebuild

Keep in mind at some point it doesn't pay to rebuild.
I recently rebuilt my Westerbeke 82B waterpump needing a shaft beyond what's in the kit.
All told it was $350 for parts!
Now, I have a...

Re: Pacific Seacraft 60' custom ketch

Bob,

It's great to see a boat of this type being built.
Can't wait to see it at Annapolis.
Congratulations.

The Gozzard 41 was designed about 10 years ago. It's hull was a redesign of earlier Gozzards and results in more performance.
Subsequently, the G44, and G36>G37 were given the new hulls.

I would think the Glen Cove Ferry Terminal under construction will deter people from staying year round at Brewers with the resultant noise, traffic, and congestion.

On the other hand...just 12 miles across LI Sound from Stamford, Brewers in Glen Cove has bought the adjacent marina and will now have 600 slips. Maybe a good business decision.
