Re: Volvo 2003 Air filter

Measure carefully and try an auto parts store. There is quite an assortment of filters and housings available. I found a nearly exact copy of one for the dual carburated Volvo at Advance Auto...

Re: Westerbeke 30B three oil leak

Probably if you have plenty of room. The seal is a one piece type. You will probably find it easier to remove the plate that it is mounted into and then remove the seal from the plate.
The...

Re: Yamaha 1995 F9.9MLHT Hard to start and kill switch

I had a 2001 Yamaha.

The Kill switch was held open by a red plastic "C" clip that a lanyard should be attached to it. It works by grounding out the Ignition primary circuit. Located on the...

Re: Westerbeke 30B three oil leak

Two possibilities, and I've seen them both.

Fatigue crack in pan. It will look like a hairline crack and can be very hard to see.

Rust pit through the pan. Again very hard to see. Clean...

Re: Air Intake Oil Residue OK?

Valve stem seals are seldom a problem in diesels. A small amount of misting in the intake is normal.

Two reasons for this. Unlike gas jobs there is only a very slight vacuum in diesels and also...

Re: Mercury 5hp Maitenance

I have a Merc 7.5--- Replace the impeller once every year. Carry a spare one. Dirty or oily water will take it out pretty quickly.

Re: 26 foot catalina open water?

I have made that trip six times but only once did I try it straight through. It didn't work that time as I ran out of wind.

I suggest that you leave Fort Myers a day early and spend the night in...

Smile Re: Trailer brake fire!

Here is a list of things that I have found wrong with disc type brakes on varying equipment.

Your specific problem was most likely a damaged hose leading to the caliper that didn't release. They...

Re: Copper plate found on hull...

I have a somewhat larger plate electrically bonded with #9 copper wire to the standing rigging. It's obviously intended for lightning protection.

Re: Old Honda 7.5 prop help needed

I understand. I spent two days in the north end of Matanzas Pass waiting for the wind to come around so that I could sail to within paddle distance. Fishing and sleeping is also part of...

Re: Old Honda 7.5 prop help needed

It was an epoxy of some sort. Originally it was vulcanized in but they said that they used a special kit for it. I suspect that any prop shop (a pretty common establishment in the shallow water...

Re: Old Honda 7.5 prop help needed

It was bonded together when made. The repair was $35.00 in 2010 when mine went bad.

Burris Prop Repair in Fort Myers fixed mine. Head for your local yellow pages.

Re: How : Diesel lines without lift pump ?

Some setups include the lift pump within the injector pump. ( two or even three stage pump) If your priming pump is located on the injection pump that is probably what you have. There are many...

Re: Largest Trailerable Sailboat

First, considering the nature of boats and the nature of highways the limitations are more likely to be imposed by the various state highway commissions than by boating parameters.

First figure...

Re: replacing Bomar hatch in 1979 Seafarer 23

I found a hatch that was a half inch narrower in a salvage place. Then I reduced the size of the port by 1/4" on each side and got on with the program.

Re: 1GM10 won't run over ~2500rpm

Rocketer, you are over propped, or have a plugged exaust. If a diesel smokes more than briefly it's being overloaded. This will either "tulip" the valves or put a hole in the piston sooner or...

Re: Need tips on moving a small wooden Catspaw Dinghy from R.I. to CA

Try U-Haul if you are driving. It would also fit in a full size van. Lots of ways to skin a small boat. A car trailer also would work. Depends a lot on what else has to go and the money availiable...

Re: Mast-attached winch problem

Re: fuel pump repairs

They are not taboo. The difficulties are largely the high degree of cleanliness required and since they fail pretty rarely parts aren't easily availiable.

In the last 50 years I have never had...

Re: 1977 ODAY Repowering options Questions

I have a Yamaha 8 hp out board. It is satisfactory and will push the 29 footer against about 25 knot winds (barely). To keep the prop in the water is the biggest trouble with this setup.
