Re: Manual Toilet Questions

I've replaced the Jabsco with a Raritan PHII on every boat I've had, somehow not a single bolt hole has ever lined up, a little Marinetex and no one notices.
I'd throw a Jabsco away and replace it...

Re: Dock Etiquette While Working

My powerboat dockmate helped me remove and replace my 100 lb. batteries 2 weeks ago when he saw me wrestling with the first one, I weigh 98 lbs. Then a week ago he moved to another slip. Yeah, I feel...

Re: I Paid a Dude. And I Liked It.

Re: My newest project

Re: Do you make guests wear PFDs?

No, And they can piss over the side if they want or get a cold beer from the fridge if they bring me one too. More like cruising with Ragnar Lothbrok than William Bligh, my crew are all volunteers.;)

Re: My Boat is being accused of breaking the pumpout?

Yeah Rich, but none of that is caused by the OP or his plastic tank based MSD system is it ? Other than the pump, which should draw a vacuum on the tank without self destructing, it's a system with...

Re: PFDs for your tender

Yep, I Just toss a couple of them disposable orange ones that come with every boat and seem to breed like rabbits in dock boxes and other dark places. I cleaned out the garage this summer and found...

Re: Does anyone use belt PFDs?

Yeah, Just a little too "fanny pack" for me yet, and after a tough night ashore if I end up in the water before reaching the boat I'm probably too "clumsy" to get it over my head.

Re: Spreading ashes?

The commercial charter boats (whale watchers etc.) go out to three miles for "memorial" services, but I've attended many "paddle out" services conducted privately that adhere more to the state law. ...

Re: My Boat is being accused of breaking the pumpout?

I don't see how that is possible.
It's a vacuum pump that draws a vacuum on a tank, the hose is connected to the tank not the pump, so the pump never pumps anything but air. You can pump gravel with...

Re: Buehler Emily

Homemade wood burning stove in a homemade wood boat, interesting concept.
In my neighborhood that "boomkin and bowsprit" would require a 40' slip, 8 year waitlist and $735/month or 88.2% of the...

Re: Cruising Through Tax Season

I've used the software from Taxact.com for over ten years, they are on the IRS list of companies that have a free filing for AGI of $60,000 or less. I've been using the "deluxe bundle" for $20 that...

Re: Greatest fear?

Hitting a whale
They've gotten pretty thick year round in our area and I've had a couple of those "Holy Crap !! where'd that giant freakin' whale come from !!!" incidents.

Re: Hookahs Gas vs 12V DC - Which is better and why?

After a structure fire we used to use high velocity electric fans called "smoke ejectors" to clear the smoke from a building so we could remove our air masks to overhaul. Then we started using large...

Re: San Diego (also questions about boat ownership in California)

Re: San Diego (also questions about boat ownership in California)

Correct, use tax is only once, if state registered DMV will collect when you change ownership, if a documented vessel you pay State Franchise Tax Board, or they will eventually find you and bill you.

Re: San Diego (also questions about boat ownership in California)

In general shallow draft is less desirable in So. Calif., really not much need.
Owner of a boat berthed in the state on Jan. 1 will be assessed property tax annually by the county, about 1 percent...
