Re: Does a sailboat need a travler?

svzephyr44,

I'm sorry, but I still couldn't get past your first paragraph

First of all, the traveler has NOTHING to do with controlling draft in the sail.
Secondly, draft position has...

Re: $1500 Catalina 27

On flip side, however, when one does all the work to "restore" a boat, you learn more about your boat and boat systems in general than you could ever learn with a "ready to sail" boat.

At least I...

Re: $1500 Catalina 27

Just buy my '87 for $20K. I've already done the work and sweated for you. And it'll still be cheaper what you have in mind. :)

ETA: here's what I had to do (and it's not really for sale).
new...

Re: VSC saved me from CG boarding

I agree with caberg.

This subject should not be an off-topic discussion. It's quite definitely sailing related and obviously many members here feel quite strongly about CG and LE boardings. In...

Re: Got The Big Bird To Fly

Looks great!

Try to get it rotated out in front more especially if you are sailing deep. When you have your main up, you don't want to blanket it.

ETA: btw, those sail ties on your main are...

Re: Concussions

Yup.
I was skiing many years ago, and crashed hard after a bad landing while trying to get a bit of air. I didn't feel much, just a little funny and tried to ski it off. But for the next hour or...

Re: The trend in new cruising boats....

Honestly, I don't know. I've never sailed one. I just don't think that in 8 or less knots UW, you are going to get the top telltale streaming on the main. If you over trim the mainsheet, you are...

Re: The trend in new cruising boats....

Well, what does someone in the market for a 30-35 foot boat do if the only thing out there are race boats or boats that are so user friendly that they can't point higher than 60 degrees but can...

Re: The trend in new cruising boats....

But the "targeted demographic" hasn't, I believe, changed too much over the years. For instance, my 1987 Catalina 27 was probably designed as a "family weekender". Yet it it still has a traveler. ...

The trend in new cruising boats....

I've been noticing that many of the newer cruising boats to hit the market, especially the new Beneteaus and Jeanneaus seem to be really trying to simplify sail control. For a while, now the trend...
