Re: Want device to pump debris out of shorted battery cell

I don't know why everyone keeps saying "oh, my god, don't mess with battery acid". Sure, it's dangerous. Sure, you have to respect it, be careful. But I mess with it ALL THE TIME as I top off the...

Re: Want device to pump debris out of shorted battery cell

No "expert" told me this was going to work. I'm looking for and speculating about ways to fix a common problem with batteries. Excuse me for thinking my $700 worth of house batteries should last...

Re: Want device to pump debris out of shorted battery cell

My batteries are about 2.3 years old, so I'm reluctant to react to a shorted or partially-shorted cell by just buying a new battery. Would be GREAT if there was some simple short-fixer.

I'll have...

Re: Want device to pump debris out of shorted battery cell

Hey, I'm asking if a product exists and would work. I'm not advocating that people dump out battery contents or get battery acid all over themselves.

Suppose someone made a turkey-baster kind of...

Want device to pump debris out of shorted battery cell

One cell of one of my batteries dries a lot quicker than any of the other cells when I'm charging them hard. I wonder if it's shorted, or partially shorted. That led to:

I see lots of articles...

Re: KISS wind-generator bearings shot after 2 years ?

The bearings were easy to get. The machine-shop charged a fair amount to take the old bearings off and press the new ones on, partly because I couldn't get the guts out of the fiberglass housing,...

Re: KISS wind-generator bearings shot after 2 years ?

Got the generator down off the mast, opened up the front cap, and sure enough, the front bearing is toast. Completely rusted and almost frozen. Oil seal ahead of that doesn't look too good, either....

Re: KISS wind-generator bearings shot after 2 years ?

I tried disconnecting one of the AC wires from the control switch; no difference. Guess I'll disconnect all three. No corrosion or shorts anywhere I can see; haven't tried to open the body of the...

KISS wind-generator bearings shot after 2 years ?

It looks like the bearings in my KISS wind-generator need replacement, after only 2+ years. The blades don't spin in the wind. I can spin them a little by hand but there's friction and they don't...

Looks like the Schaeffer roller furlers on my 1973 Gulfstar 44, except it seems to have some extra flanges on top.

Vinyl-coated cockpit cushions

I'm trying to find a cheap source of vinyl-coated (sealed) closed-cell foam cushions for the cockpit. Similar to those sold by bottomsiders or other marine stores, but they want $1200 or so for a...

Down in the E Caribbean islands, half the time pasta will break out with bugs if you keep it too long, and wheat-based cereals (raisin bran, etc) break out in bugs VERY quickly.

Probably should have put a little more emphasis on sailing performance, and traded off size/space for that. Although I do like all of the size and space I got.
