Re: smoke filling up the cabin

That is just a water strainer that keeps seaweed or other debris from getting sucked into the heat exchanger.

Re: what type of fitting do I want at my outhaul car

A 1/8 or 3/16 amsteel line with an eye splice is what you need to replace the wire. You could splice it in place pretty easily or get a d shackle to attach it.

Re: are these blisters

The usual method of attachment is soft(er) metal pins inserted into 'chamfered' bore holes of the 'straps' and with the ends of the pins/rods peened-over (flattened) flush to the 'straps' with a...

Re: whats the best way to clean a fouled bootstripe?

My original strip was painted on. I suggest you note where the scum line you have now is located and move it up 6" above that. Use a heat gun or a razor blade scraper to remove old line. Tape off,...

Re: Where do you buy your beta marine oil, filters, etc

Yes it does.

Beta makes it pretty easy, unlike most any other manufacturer. On their website they cross reference many parts for Kubota/Beta :)

Re: anchor type question

Yes, unless you need a storm anchor. Any weakness of the Fortress is not related to its ability to hold your boat, for which an FX-16 is more than enough. The only weakness of this design is from...

Re: anchor type question

If I was in your shoes I would put a 16lb danforth on 1/2 inch three strand and 30' of chain.

If you want to splurge, get a Fortress FX-16 instead. Much nicer anchor, but also much more $$.

Re: installing new water system

That could be the vent. The fill hose should be the large hose. The vent can be 1/2 inch or so.

Re: new wood and varnish ???

I'd agree with that, apart from the ending at non-thinned. I find 10% thinner helps in several ways - it goes on better, you get a smoother finish, and it dries more quickly so there's less chance of...

Re: Do I have to predrill before running screws into fiberglass

I'll add:

Using a large drill bit for a chamfer bit does work, but, doesn't leave a nice chamfer. Invest in a chamfer bit or use a router bit(in a drill).

Re: Do I have to predrill before running screws into fiberglass

Lining up the holes isn't THAT hard (and I'm lazy):

Drill the holes in the wood.
Put the wood over the fiberglass and tape it in place.
Put a bit in the drill that is the same size as the...

Re: Help with my roller furler

The prefeeder is a device that grabs onto the luff tape of the sail and helps it get into the slot on the furler. It's not necessary but helpful if you are doing this solo. Without it you'll want a...

You and I have a similar rig. They are single-spreader "telephone pole" rigs.

You have upper shrouds and a single set of lower shrouds. Buy or borrow a Loos Gauge. The gauge has notches...
