Re: Screwpile 2014

Take from someone who missed their flight b/c the Bermuda race took longer than expected, I wouldn't count on Gov Cup being a fast trip. ;)

And yes, DB is out, keel issues.

Re: Outboards: sailing with the motor down.

I always tilt it up when sailing. And remove it and put it over the keel when racing. 30 kts on the bay chop will try to rip the transom out of the boat with an outboard on the back of it.

Re: Screwpile 2014

lol, tell us how you really feel bubble.... :p

Also, screwpile gets a bad wrap for light air, but it actually has a great record of getting off a lot of races historically. It's well run, and...

Re: Screwpile 2014

Yeah, SPLC is always a "last minute registration" type deal for most folks. Lots of people on vacation, and it's hard for the organizers to update the list all the time.

Audrey will be there in...

Re: Need a pendant made...

Dave E, I’ve made 2 for a J120 in the Annapolis to Bermuda race. I could make you one to your 15” finished dimension and ship it. What’s the largest headsail square footage that you run?
I use...

Re: How much of your storage is devoted to tools and parts?

I have a 25' boat. Actually 24.5' so storage is a big issue. There's no furniture down below either. I carry spare cotter/clevis pins, maybe a shackle, and some split rings. Anything more than that...

Re: New MLX halyard for furling gennaker

Snap shackle is fine. You want to be able to connect and disconnect with ease. If you're worried about it coming undone, then put a wrap of tape around the pin. The screw shackle takes a while to...

Re: Pissed off crew

I've done one delivery for free. And that's enough. I'll distance race b/c I like it, and try to find owners that pay expenses. Deliveries is mandatory paid travel and a daily rate. No way I'm...

Re: How far does the outhaul need to travel. 30 ft. tartan

Just make sure you leave enough play in the system to easily remove and install the mainsail.

Re: Do I need Foulies?

I've done the trip back from Bermuda and spent 10 hours in heavy rain. I didn't once think about how much my foulies cost. Just how dry they were. My only regret was not spending even more. My...

Re: New turnbuckle lube recommendatns

Lanacote or tef-gel are the two major players. Tef-gel is a little sticky but not horrible. I've seen stuff brake loose with a screwdrive that has been in the mast for the better part of a decade...

Re: All you "Riggers" out there

Short answer, YES.

Long answer, it depends, like everything else. But at 25 years old I'd replace it. Heck, I'd replace all standing rigging at 20 years old, no exceptions. Stainless steel...

Re: Control lines for Lewmar traveller size 2

I've never had salsa slip in a cam cleat. I like MLX, and it's a blended core, I'm using it form my mainsheet, but the salsa works very well as a traveler line.

Tenex, if it works for Stumble,...

Re: Control lines for Lewmar traveller size 2

I use salsa line on my traveler and others that I rig. It works really well and runs very fast.

Re: Rigging question

How much additional support do you think the partners add? Lets say there's 7' below decks, you're really only getting 7' above decks. I don't consider that 50% more. Also the support would be...

Re: Boat Detailing in Annapolis
