Re: Buying a boat with deck delam

Not liking relying on a 4 year old survey.. lots can happen in that time.

It would help to know the size/value of the boat.. such an issue may be less of a big deal on a small 'for now' boat than...

Re: New to the group, can someone identify this boat?

Hmm.. the pictured boat has a more angular cabin shape and has 3 fwd ports to the Easterly's two... I think we're still looking.

Re: isuzu 3LD1 marine diesel overheating

Sounds like you may have simply had some sort of airlock that finally worked itself out..

Re: Need a doodad

Google 'shroud cleat'... should do the trick.. you could add a snaphook easily enough.

Re: This is why we can't have nice things...

I'd just get some inexpensive cotton duck fabric that you can cover the cushions with.. even if it's simply wrapped onto the seats like a cover sheet. Wash them occasionally and put them back.

In...

Another summer report

Just back from our usual 6 week summer, though we had a couple of short 3-4 day trips out prior to the 'bulk' vacation. It was another pretty good one, despite 4 different occasions of day-long rain...

Re: Shortening a mast to replace one. How and where?

Hunter rigs have rather severe spreader sweep.. the aft chainplates you have for your lower shrouds will not be intended for the loads of your uppers .. trying to redirect the shroud 'line' back to...

Re: Sabre 28/30 for a newer sailor?

The J30 is more performance oriented than a C30 or Sabre 30, but as you can see from the photos she has a pretty decent interior for couple cruising. IIRC there were two cockpit versions offered.....

Re: Rowing an inflatable

Any current, wind, or chop will make that a very difficult paddle... how far out to the mooring? Even a 'good' soft bottomed inflatable will be a PITA to row any distance in anything other than flat...

Re: Shortening a mast to replace one. How and where?

The swept spreaders will be quite problematic for you. You cannot use them without moving your chainplates to match. This would be a major redesign of your rig (and boat) and probably not a good...

Re: Shortening a mast to replace one. How and where?

I don't think that's the mast for you.. it's too much of a modification and probably beefier than you'd want.

The other issue on 'where to shorten it' depends on how the mast is built. If the...

Re: What is this?

The light line probably used to be attached to a plastic tube that protected the MOB flag from UV damage. We had a similar setup on our last boat.. It had a small drogue attached and it was also...

Re: Reattaching cabin top hand rails

Compared to the yard labour, buying new ones and installing them yourself seems a 'no brainer' to me. Good chance you'll do damage to the old rails even if you do manage to get the old bolts out, and...

Re: Modular wiring terminals -- help!

If you don't see screw heads in the smaller holes alongside the wire terminals, then they are probably spring loaded.. ie you insert a tool (small screwdriver) and push to open a spring-loaded...

Re: Used gear for our new boat

Your local craigslists and the like are another good bet, though electronics like a plotter may be outdated if they are offered there.

Re: Swim Platform with Stern Hung Rudder?

Could work.. the trick would be ensuring that you're not interfering with rudder swing, and you'll need to be able to mount a ladder on it too. Doesn't seem to make sense to have the ladder and...

Re: Westerbeke 21 diesel running to hot

You may have an airlock in the system inhibiting circulation, and another thing missing from your checklist is the condition of the mixing elbow itself, though with what sounds like adequate water...
