Re: Anyone living on a Gemini 105MC

I think I am the one who mucked this up a bit, I brought up the Gemini 3000 because the specifications and the performance and stability data are very similar for that boat and the Catalac 9M. So...

Re: I am 26, and seriously considering moving aboard with my girlfriend. Any advice?

The market is right for this kind of thinking. I don't necessarily agree with the dollar value suggested but the logic is good, right boat - could work out very nicely. You could break even, if you...

Re: I am 26, and seriously considering moving aboard with my girlfriend. Any advice?

You do need to understand how marketable the boat you purchase will be when you are ready to sell - buying a house or trading up for another boat, whatever. Some designs hold their value longer than...

Re: 24 or 27 ft Catamaran with cabin (afforable) exist?

Finding a multihull, with a cabin, for 5K can happen, though quite rare. If you do find one I would expect it would need a lot of upgrades and repairs $. Under 30 feet trimarans generally have more...

Re: Minimum extended cruising requirements.

The O'Day 37 Center is roomy based on comments above; but more than that I would be looking at waterline lengths v. Length overall. Older designs have long LOA but less LWL, generally speaking. So...

Re: Minimum extended cruising requirements.

It is not clear what size boats you have sailed on Lake's, so I run the risk of suggesting something you are already quite familiar with. With that in mind I offer 3 basic book suggestions; all 3...

Re: Financing

My boat was built in 1967, no problem with loan with USAA or insurance with BOATUS. Both wanted a survey with approved Surveyor before releasing money or covering the boat. No unusual challenges.

Re: Financing

USAA will make loans others will not, at reasonable rates because of who they offer service too. It is how I got my boat. :)

Re: ? Sail from Lake Erie to Florida late August

Being from Louisiana, heat and humidity would be non issues for me, provided I had a bimini and fans :D. However everything else I would take very seriously ;)

Re: Looking for marine systems training school

The schools you mention are more formal and certified ways that would allow you to be marketable, possibly larger marine firms. But they are usually longer than a year. Best solution I found was to...

Re: Experiences with Tricare while cruising?

It is my understanding that if you have a Service Connected disability and you are out of the U.S. then a Veteran would contact the U.S. Embassy and they would have information regarding local health...

Re: What do you about Hurricanes?

Never having been through one on a boat and having read others accounts of being on a boat, most say they would not stay on the boat again.

It is hard to leave one's home but it would be good to...

Re: rammed:by the customs & border patrol

Certainly I agree with the above but around here everyone pretty much is treated the same regardless of sail or power, 15' to 50'. One strategy we use is to start the new year with a request for...

Re: rammed:by the customs & border patrol

Opps! :D

You right about that one. I remember these boardings around here occurring regularly since at least 1995. It may be related to the large military presence in the area.

Re: Dehumidifier in wet/rain PNW?

Re: Dehumidifier in wet/rain PNW?

Hunter Marine was installing a Dehumidifier in their higher end boats about 15 years ago. I do not know if was a unit that shared the blower as part of the A/C unit or a stand alone dehumidifier...
