Re: Thanks for the "Thanks" button. Not sure I like...

So those who have built up 'likes' based on credible contributions are all reset to zero. New readers only have post counts to use to filter and we all know that isn't helpful. Surprise!

Re: Inverter for hot water tank

If you already have an engine coolant loop you will find the water is heated better that way then running the engine to keep the batteries up to support an inverter to heat water.

If you are going...

Re: E-Mail while crusing

That would be grib files, not grin files. The GFS computer model that is used to generate gribs has an issue. For those inclined to mathematics, it assumes a continuous second derivative over the...

Re: Cost for delivery skipper

I don't agree. I cost $400/day plus travel, expenses, and provisions. Have about as much work as I can handle. On the other hand I don't have too much trouble getting cheaper crew.

Re: E-Mail while crusing

See my post #12 in this thread. You are best served to use a Signalink USB external sound card (about $100US). YOU WILL NEED A GENERAL CLASS HAM LICENSE OR BETTER TO USE WINLINK. For reciprocity in...

Re: You are NOT "FISHING"

In my experience the real professionals know exactly what the rules are and don't confuse their desires with legal reality.

One of my favorite stories:

I was running down the New Jersey coast...

Re: E-Mail while crusing

True as far as it goes.

We can break e-mail and Internet communications down into three categories: very short range, short range, and long range.

Very short range is dominated by WiFi. You can...

Re: St. Michaels

I've always enjoyed 208 Talbot. I haven't been there since the change in management.

Re: Weather Fax

rfax.pdf has guidance.

Geeky radio context: radiofacsimile is transmitted as frequency shift keying (FSK). Dedicated wefax receivers are FSK receivers. Those of us that use single sideband (SSB)...

Re: Politics and Moderation

Speculation on my part, but I suspect that SailNet administration (not the moderators) provide OT/Pol/Rel areas because that increases traffic and user accounts, which in turn helps them sell ads. I...

That was my impression of the SYC Dave, but I wasn't willing to state that here since I was only observing, not involved. Glad to hear someone is taking up the challenge. Can you give us more info on...

Re: Gen-set vs. engine

Good stuff from Z. Many manufacturers, such as Mastervolt, make high-speed diesel generators (running at 3600 rpm for US and 3000 rpm for EU power) and medium-speed units (running at 1800 rpm for US...
