Re: Stern tube grease and propeller shaft

Julien, sounds like you did a great job on the fix. Don't stay away so long. Would like to hear what else you are working on.

Re: Cal 31

Williewood, not sure what you mean by boxing in the engine. Are you talking about building an enclosure for sound reduction?

Re: Anchoring Question I've Never Seen Discussed or Tested in Any Detail

PDQ, thought about your comment to my first observation. Suspect that how well the anchor fluke cuts the soil as it is turned sideways and the anchor's ultimate holding power would also have to be...

Re: Anchoring Question I've Never Seen Discussed or Tested in Any Detail

I would like to summarize what I think I've learned so far:

1. Characteristics that makes an anchor good at setting initially (quick set, deep set) also make it better at dealing with wind...

Re: Anchoring Question I've Never Seen Discussed or Tested in Any Detail

Noelex, that is a great photo. What type of bottom material was the anchor in? Do you recall how quickly the wind shift came on?

Re: Anchoring Question I've Never Seen Discussed or Tested in Any Detail

Pretty good videos. I was not thrilled with the Danforth-style performance. Under his conditions it seemed to drag a lot before setting.

Thanks Gerben SYD.

Re: Anchoring Question I've Never Seen Discussed or Tested in Any Detail

pdqaltair, thanks for the practical sailer link. I wish they had tested Danforth style anchors as many, like me, use them as primary anchors. However, the article was very insightful particularly...

Anchoring Question I've Never Seen Discussed or Tested in Any Detail

I've read numerous articles, watched as many videos and studied all the anchor setting tests I can and don't believe I've ever seen a thorough discussion on the physics of what happens to a properly...

Re: ICW Crossing Tampa Bay - Need Information

Group9, a follow-up question...It looks like from the chart there is a pair of markers at the very south end of the cut numbered R"2" and G"3". Are these the ones you referred to? There is a R"4"...

Re: Cal 31 Propeller Question

Here is the completion of the story. After hauling the boat, I found that I had a two-blade 14 by 10 propeller. I wanted to switch to a 3-blade so Michigan Wheel's retailer, Deep Blue Yacht Supply,...

ICW Crossing Tampa Bay - Need Information

The charts show the GICW taking a sharp easterly turn as one enters Tampa Bay from the north creating a pretty long route across the Bay. It looks like there is a more direct route south by...

Re: Cal 31

BillRedd1, just another thought. Replace the anchor light bulb with an LED. They come with same base configuration as the old incandescent bulbs but use a whole lot less power.

You have to be familiar with Florida cruising and the specifics of what was being proposed in the Senate bill to really discuss the FLORIDA issue with knowledge.
