Re: Yanmar 1GM issues

Thanks everyone with your great ideas and suggestions.

Regarding the throttle cable tension, I placed a U Bolt clamp on the cable for now and cranked it down which seems to do the job although I...

Re: Yanmar 1GM issues

Agreed, I was quite surprised this "mechanic" adjusted the limiter but now I get to deal with the results. I've tweaked the limiter back to where I think it should be and managed to get rid of most...

Re: Inflatable Boat Airfloor Replacement with Plywood

This morning I installed the floor, pumped it up and took it for a spin around the bay. It works great!
I am not worried about the portability of the floor as the boat stays inflated throughout the...

Re: Inflatable Boat Airfloor Replacement with Plywood

I covered the floor with some resin then painted it and it is ready to go into the boat tomorrow for its maiden voyage?

Re: Inflatable Boat Airfloor Replacement with Plywood

So I got the floor built using some plywood and a cedar 2x4 leftover from a fencing project. I ripped the 2x4 in half then ran a dado down the centre to fit over the plywood. Did lots of measuring...

Re: Yanmar 1GM issues

Thx guys I do need to clean the bottom and I will also see how to check the timing.
Regarding the throttle, the cable itself is fine I just need some way of adding friction to stop the throttle...

Re: Yanmar 1GM issues

Well it has been an interesting few weeks learning about by Yanmar. I hired a mechanic to determine why I was only getting 2400 RPM max when in gear, and then things got worse. Unbeknown to me, he...

Re: Inflatable Boat Airfloor Replacement with Plywood

Thanks for all of the feedback. Since there are no dealers where I live to buy a floor, nor have I seen inflatable parts for sale online or in the classifieds and necessity is the mother of...

Re: Inflatable Boat Airfloor Replacement with Plywood

Thx RichH, do you recall what thickness of plywood was used, and did you cut just one piece for the entire floor, or connect several smaller pieces together?

Inflatable Boat Airfloor Replacement with Plywood

I am pondering the idea of replacing the air floor, which has since had a catastrophic failure, with plywood and wondering if anyone has successfully attempted this. Aside from the airfloor, the...

Re: Yanmar 1GM issues

It does NOT make a noise at a steady rpm in gear.
It does make the noise when accelerating quickly, and it is quite loud above the sound of the engine - "clanking" is the best adjective I can use. ...

Re: Yanmar 1GM issues

Yes the engine is warmed up and purrs like a diesel at low and high rpm when in neutral or in gear. I only hear the noise during a rapid acceleration and can prevent the noise by accelerating...

Re: Yanmar 1GM issues

The leak is about one drip / second when under power, and after the engine is shut down it will drip once/5secs for several days.
I did some reading and have a basic understanding of how to do the...

Re: Yanmar 1GM issues

Thank you for all of your suggestions Christian. To be honest, I do not know what kind of gearbox I have but will go down later this week and see if I can find a plate with the info.
I like the...

Re: Yanmar 1GM issues

The good news regarding the multiple issues I am having with my Yanmar is that I fixed the white smoke, which was actually steam, and the minimal raw water flow out the exhaust. The problem was the...

Re: Yanmar 1GM issues

Lots of great suggestions coming in, so thank you to everyone. So there is no noise when running the engine in neutral, nor when undersail and gearbox is is neutral. It only occurs when under power...

Re: Yanmar 1GM issues

Thanks again everyone, albeit the problem related to the "clanking" noise does not seem to be very good news. So it seems that it is either the rod bearing, main bearing or cutlass bearing. Any...
