Re: Bigger is better & faster?

As a rule... longer waterline means it's scientifically capable of a higher speed. But then the variables come into play: sail area, boat hull design, crew capapbility and even the sails themselves....

Re: Coastal sailing without depth finder?

Here's the deal. If you run aground and can jump in the water and "unstuck" yourself, no big, you don't need one. Otherwise.... please don't become a statistic.

Re: I Equate it to Driving in a Bad Snow Storm!

Yes, it is silly. You stated you don't feel like you have control with just 10-13k of wind. Your boat is capable of 20k winds easy. Should you need to reef with just 10-13k? I'd say no (looking at...

Re: Suzuki 2.5 security to dink

Yes they do... about 40% of the time. The trick to not getting bit is pull that sucker like you're trying to pull the starter cord out and you'll be OK (don't do a 1' baby pull). I used to be a...

Re: Topclimber bosun's chair

I have the Mast Climber. Works as advertized. Was fun actually. The condition of your halyard is what I'd pay attention to. An old, moldy, hard crusty halyard... would be asking for trouble. I like...

Re: Maiden Voyage Newbie Trainwreck

Have to say, most folks wouldn't admit to a totally "newb" day like you did in detail. That says something for your honesty. Sounds like you have a good "mate", hold onto her! Continue to learn your...

Re: looking for marina

Welcome aboard, congrats on the new boat, welcome to the life. :)
Edit your post title and include your area. I was about to suggest something in Puget Sound for you. :D

Re: How many sailors actually know how to sail?

Provocative at best. What's realistic about telling the sailing community most of them don't know how to set sails for given conditions? According to who? Who cares? If racer X can sail with full...

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

This is my first post to this thread. The boat has an integral fresh water tank made in the bow under the V berth. The first time we ran out of water (at the dock) I started looking... there was...

Re: Is sailing intuitive?

Shari - One more thing. Remeber, when you ask even a remotely "open ended" question with an audience like SailNet (every level of experience and knowledge) you are going to get all kinds of answers,...

Re: New Allmand 31 owner aboard

Hi Brett,

I have a 31' with the 5424 (basically the same motor). I have a 40 gallon tank, I cruise (3/4 power or so) at 5.75-6.25k (depending on current) at the rate of 1 gph. Do the math for...

Re: How do you rate your marina/mooring ?

My marina in Everett, WA (largest on the west coast we're told) is also the least expensive in Puget Sound, very well maintained, good staff, super clean shore facilities, with fine dining and all...

Hi All,

I have the required TYPE IV throwable on board... a seat cushion with handles. I know, bare minimum. One step at a time and now it's time to upgrage. I see the horshoe, the ring, the all...

Speedo Help Please

Hi All,

Took Traveler out for our first sail Saturday, everything went great except today... no speed-o-meter. This is actually the way I expect the 34 year old girl to act (things need...
