Re: How to removing ammeter

The internet is a wonderful thing! I found the wiring diagram for my boat... at least the original factory install.

No Ammeter but it's clear where the ammeter is and I have stuck it into the...

Splicing different sized double briad

My single-line reefing system works great EXCEPT when shaking out a reef as the 10mm line creates heaps of friction around the leech cringe.

SO plan A is to use a smaller line eg 8mm to reduce...

Re: How to removing ammeter

yes you're right and this might solve some of my questions. Thanks. But I can't physically see/get to where all the wires go to AND I'll need to rig a very long test lead for some of the wires, since...

Re: How to removing ammeter

Sure: fly from Boston to Sydney, a couple of days; grovelling around on my boat, say 2 more days; then fly home again. Probably a week all up plus travel costs etc... I'm sure a case of beer'll cover...

Re: How to removing ammeter

I did read the link (which certainly added to my education) but is not directly relevant to my setup, since my internally shunted ammeter is NOT in the cockpit but mounted through the engine bay...

Re: How to removing ammeter

Looks like the second wire on the alternator/ammeter side goes directly to a battery bank. The wire on the other side of the fuse seems to go to a battery switch for the house or start bank I can't...

Re: Underwater Flex-O-Fold Prop Installation

No criticism meant at all. Indeed I was complimenting you on your skills making it "look" easy.

I admit I hadn't thought about pre coating the prop (though it doesn't look like it in the vid) but...

Re: Underwater Flex-O-Fold Prop Installation

Cool. You made it look easy but only because you had all the right tools to hand when you need them. My only thought was the prop has no antifoul/propspeed, so the cost saving of changing the prop in...

Re: How to removing ammeter

Went to the boat today. A 7mm wire does indeed do directly TO the ammeter from the alternator.

BUT the wire FROM the ammeter ends up in a scary place...please see attached files.

Looking...

Re: How to removing ammeter

Redundancy in this particular item isn't mission critical, and adds a complication rather than simplifying, which is what I'm trying to do.... and what eherlihy said.

Battery management worries

Sorry for the long post but I ‘ve had a few electrical things change on my 33ft sloop and need some reassurance that all is okay or advice on how to move forward… so hence the detail here.

I have...

Re: How to removing ammeter

Good idea. Will have to look at the degree of difficulty routing a new line. The ammeter is mounted onto a bulk head that backs onto the engine compartment where the cabling is. But where the cables...

How to removing ammeter

The old ammeter no longer works... is redundant anyway with my new(er) more sophisticated battman system that measures everything electrical anyway.

I want to remove the old metre. I understand...

Re: Refill Propane?

Re: yanmar smokes when accelerating....

+1 what Mark said.

The black smoke is unburned fuel.

In my case cleaning the prop made no improvement, but the problem was still the prop. I ended up having to take the prop off and had it re...
