Re: Sail Cleaning Anyone?

I just had my main and 135 genoa repaired and cleaned. North Sails in Annapolis charges $3.30 per pound for the cleaning. I am pleased with how they came out. They look like new.

Fix for clanging furler

I had to get my genoa cleaned and repaired on my new-to-me Catalina 350, so I figured I would send the main in to be cleaned as well. I was horrified when I returned to the boat only to hear the...

Re: Broken Spreader

You could have kept sailing, but if you tacked, you would have had a major problem. We lost the leward spreader in a race, sailing on my brother's boat many years ago. We rigged the spinnaker...

Re: Stop freakin' waving at me!

I guess it is your own answer to your own "Why" question. If you don't like people waving at you, stop making eye contact.

Re: Stop freakin' waving at me!

I have a different take. Seems the OP was nasty from the start. Just say'n.

Re: Looking for a small boat to learn on

Several years ago, I bought my first sailboat, a 14' Ray Greene. RASCAL 14 sailboat specifications and details on sailboatdata.com (http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=5918)
It was...

Re: I love the new boat

Huck, good to see you getting out and enjoying your new-to-you boat! I am also happy that the mainsail fit your boat and that you are able to make use of it. It wasn't doing me any good sitting in...

Re: Old boat and fix it up or newer boat with few frills?

I think it depends on how much you can do yourself. I had a 30-YO Irwin 31 Citation that was solid, but I was continually working on her. I now have a 2002 Hunter 306 and love the fact that outside...

Re: Cruising in a Hunter?

I am guessing Matt Rutherford would disagree. He sailed 27,000 NM, solo, non-stop around the Americas in a 27' Albin Vega. Type of boat has way more to do with it than LOA.

Re: wind conditions and reefing

Seriously? When is the last forecast you saw that was 10 kts, gusting to 35? The OP asked a question about being in 15-20 and being hit with a 30 kt gust without a reef. To your point...I wouldn't...

Re: wind conditions and reefing

The misnomer here is that a reef or two slows you down. In my experience, a properly reefed main with good sail shape will actually help you sail faster, all else equal. Excessive heeling is what...

Re: Bow Eye?

I would suggest that you use some sort of backing. Marine grade plywood will work, but you may have a difficult time as the inside of the hull at the bow will form a V. Tough to get plywood to be...

Re: My Boat was Hit Bad

I am glad you were ashore when this happened. Boats can be fixed. You have to be thankful that you were not injured (guessing a lawyer would disagree) but I am talking about bodily! I agree with...
