Craigslook

NW --

Craigslook is like a search engine for Craigslist, and it lets you search nationwide instead of one market at a time. I've found a guy who has several C-27 mains for sale and we're just...

Thanks!

Wow, guys, that was quick and concise! Thanks for the pic links. Now maybe I can get the right sail with proper attachments. And I thought they were brass.

Catalina 27 Mainsail attachment?

My Catalina 27 has the original standard rig. The foot is a rope-in-slot arrangement, and the mast has what I measured as about 3/4" internal slides. Does anyone have pictures of these slides...

Good link!

Thanks for the info.

Now, the durability question:

I have (1 part) polyurethane on my floors and it lasts 5 - 10 years with minimal upkeep. Why does (1 part) deck poly only last a couple of...

Cost and coverage?

Thanks, Paulk. Do you recall, or know, the approximate cost per gallon, and how far a gallon goes? I have a Catalina 27 that needs a total hull, deck, and cabin job.

And anyone with tips on...

Material costs?

Can anyone give me an approximate cost per gallon and coverage rate for both 1 part and 2 part deck/topside paints?

And when you say 1 part will not last as long as 2 part, are we talking 2 - 4...

Still there

Nothing got done this weekend because I didn't have a boat to reach the sinker. I have plans to try again in 2 weeks, when the tides are right enough, but I'm dependent on my pal with the Boston...

Used Sails?

Can anyone point me toward a sail loft that has a used mainsail for a Catalina 27 and wants to get rid of it? I bought the boat for a sinfully low price, and I need to continue in the "economy lane"...

No arguement here....

Boofus --

That post doesn't make you a jerk, total or partial. I am pretty sure that the P-36 is beyond reasonable repair. The reason I continue to pursue this salvage has several parts: 1) if I...

Can you hear me?

Is there anyone in the Charleston area who has or can use a small boat this Saturday to try again to raise Distant Star? High tide is 9:44 a.m. so I can't start my day looking for a boat.

Anyone?...

Boat Rescue? Maybe, if....

I have been planning on going to Charleston this Friday to make another attempt at raising Distant Star, but I'm back in a familiar rut - I don't have a work boat to reach the subject boat! Does...

Good ideas

Dro --

Thanks for the tip. Maybe I'll soak the rope halyards in soap with a touch of Lysol, agitate, rinse, and air dry. Truth be told, I should probably invest in an industrial barrel of Lysol...

For real

Holes, as in fiberglass, fiberglass, fiberglass, no fiberglass, fiberglass, etc.

Interior has two settees opposite each other. If this is your idea of "pimp", we need a sidebar.

Gimmee a fightin' chance....

Smack --

Your bragging rights are safe for a few months. Keep your eyes peeled for a used main, please. If I can afford it, it's GOT to be pretty well used.

Also, I need the fore running...

New C-27 owner

I just bought mine for a few hundred with all the parts EXCEPT the main sail. Does anyone have one in decent shape they could sell cheap? What size line recommended for jib sheets?

Why do I...

By the numbers....

First of all, if it was easy, it would have been done already.

Second, if it was cheap, it would have been done already.

Third, I had someone committed to bringing a boat, but he hit some hiway...

Air pumps, water pumps

No, we didn't get any pictures - two guys rushing to beat a rising, ripping tide doesn't leave much time to document the event. And it is my opinion that photos are not more important than results,...

Lessons learned

The rescue on the Stono was a "learning experience" if somewhat less successful than I had hoped. The tide doesn't stay low for very long, so loading and filling the air bags has to be done quickly....

Trouble in River City

OK, my borrowed boat had 4 flat tires on the way here, and by the time Mark and I found another one to borrow/rent, we didn't have much time. Also, the gas cylinders I brought only pump up about 2...

Offer to trade?

Thanks, Smack. No, I'll give you 20 "atta boy's" and "you can DO it's" for one guy with a jon boat Saturday morning, and 10 for a trash pump. In lieu of "atta boy's" you can substitute an equal...

Kismet, all:

Thanks for the pointers. I will print out some of this information so that I can refer to it on the fly. The anecdotal evidence suggests that mud is not as big a concern as first...

I wouldn't leave home without a trash pump in the truck, but if I have 3 people saying they can bring one, and I believe that they will be there, I might change my stance. I have had a generous...
