Re: Tacking Asymmetric Spin

I agree with all of the comments of why would you tack a spinnaker. That said, you could do it like we used to tack our genoa with our stay sail. Hoist or roll out your genoa prior to tacking. ...

Re: Why buy a brand new $150,000 sailboat?

Why buy a new sail boat? Ask why buy a new house? Some people want someplace that no one else has never used. Some people would buy that used boat, and replace the interior, the sails, the...

Re: Jib Roller Furler

IMO you WILL need a rigger, UNLESS, the stay is the right size for your boat. That said, ask them what the condition of this furler is, I would bet it is fine, but if the parts are no longer...

Re: Stained interior teak

It's a bit of a project but completely do able. Strip the varnish off, bleach the wood, seal the wood and re varnish. I have done it in my boat and it looks brand new. Of course, I am assuming...

Re: Biggest Selling Current Dinghy?

If I read your question right, I think the answer is an OPTI. used everywhere for teaching and has a huge regatta presence, 100's down at Sail Newport regattas in Newport.

Re: Going to have some winterizing questions.

I think there is a lot of good advise here. I have been on the service side of things for the last 15 years, winterizing no less than 12 boats a year, some with single engine, some twin, some with...

Re: anyone selling a 30+ft sailboat?

Call the boat yards in your area and surrounding. There are a lot of boats that are put up for auction, from the boat yards. There was a turn key Catalina 25 for 5000 last year and larger boats for...

Re: Need an old flag pole hole covered...

You can use a teak disc cut with a hole saw, and round over the edges with some sand paper. You can buy a piece of teak at West Marine. then mount the new flag holder on top of the teak.

Re: Using ON OFF on Awlgrip

On off is muriatic acid, it is used to condition swimming pool gunite and cement sidewalks.

Also you can wax and buff awlgrip, but once the outside gloss is broken on the paint you are...

Re: maine mooring/dock fees

I was there last week for a cruise and found the dockage very reasonable, right around $3 a foot per night, compared to Newport ($6 +). I found that rate in both Rockland and Southwest Harbor. I...

Re: Why does the galley sink drain...

Mine exit below the water line.

That said, what is the location of your sink(s)? If the sink is off centerline or there abouts, then it can back fill the boat while sailing. Centerline sinks...

Re: New sail questions

Full battens give you excellent sail shape for whatever type of sailing you will be doing. They will maintain the shape and allow the sail to last longer. However, the real question is what type of...
