Re: Needing to use engine alternator vs. generator

The Freedom 20 is capable of outputting 100 A DC into a 12V system. However, it has a power sharing feature. If you are also running your AC appliances at the same time you are charging, it will...

Re: Best of these Florida cities for sailing

Depends what is most important to you, Shore side amenities, cruiser friendly town, accessible cruising grounds, low costs, etc.
As far as places to live, I would vote Charleston. By far the the...

Re: Best route from Melbourne to Key West???

From Melbourne, you have no choice but take the ICW S. to Ft. Pierce. Spend the night there, if the forecast is perfect go offshore to Lake Worth Inlet. If the weather is not perfect take the ICW. ...

Re: 7 days in the Bahamas. What should I put on the list?

If weather permits, go down to honeymoon harbor on Gun Cay and play with the sting rays, then a bit further south and have lunch at Cat Cay.

Re: 7 days in the Bahamas. What should I put on the list?

Keep your feet out of the water next to the fish cleaning table at Big Game Club. There is a herd of Bull Sharks that would like a wave runner rider as a snack :))

Re: 7 days in the Bahamas. What should I put on the list?

If you only have 7 days, it really depends where you are starting out from. By far, the Exumas are the best cruising grounds in the Bahamas. If you are starting and ending your trip in FL, its too...

Re: Must see places on the eastern seaboard.

I have done the same route many times. In my opinion:

Best cities-Charleston, SC, Key West
Best natural attractions- Exuma Land and Sea Park, The Baths BVI.

Re: How do I keep travelift slings from topsides

I have seen yards use clear plastic sheeting. They sleeve the travelift straps with it. The straps can then stretch and slip inside the plastic sleeve which stays stationary against the hull.

Re: So. Florida, east coast, marina

Good plan, but you cant run the ICW with a 70' mast height. That will also limit you to marinas with no height restrictions from the inlet. St. Augustine has two options...Conch House Marina, and...

Re: An indelicate question

They work very well. The key to reliable operation is to flush often. I tell my guests to flush after every "splash". Don't park yourself on it with the New York Times for 20 minutes then get up...

Re: GPS Laptop set up for BVI Charter?

Re: sailing on 'headsail'

This entire thread sounds like a very good argument for an in-mast or in-boom main furling system.

Re: Boat paint, and color.

You can make it any color you want. White is the most forgiving. It does not show scratches and imperfections as much. Dark colors absorb more heat, making the inside of the boat hotter and the...

This is the most common one available. Like others have said, they seem to be most common on mid sized power boats that are owner operated or have a small crew.
