Re: Hatch installation

In my case, the bolt holes in the new hatch frame overlapped the fiberglass sufficiently that I was able to use one set of fasteners - bolted through hatch and teak frame and through fiberglass deck...

Re: Hatch installation

I removed a wood hatch and replaced with a Lewmar on a teak base. The base can be made to fit over your deck opening as needed. In my case, I made it like a four sided picture frame with the...

Re: Upgrading Yanmar / Morse/Teleflex engine controls

Thanks, again. My original throttle connector is a little more complex. It involves a spring damping function that appears to absorb some of the movement between cable itself and engine. That was...

Re: Information about flexible water tank winterizing

I had flexible water tanks in my Dufour 35 - factory spec so I don't know what brand they might have been. I just drained them completely and left the access caps open for winter storage for 18...

Re: Upgrading Yanmar / Morse/Teleflex engine controls

[QUOTE=fryewe;2519041]Control cables for the Teleflex CH2100P single lever engine control are the 33C/3300 universal model. An online search will find them at various sources or a local marine...

Re: Upgrading Yanmar / Morse/Teleflex engine controls

Hi Pendragon,

No, I never got further, and had no responses to the question of which connectors were needed. The immediate issue I had at the time (sticking in forward gear and needing a hard...

Re: shifting issue with 3GMD/KM3-A

The old oil did definitely look like it was contaminated with moisture. It was not dark, but not what it should have looked like. It is a very basic Kanzaki with no external connections to any...

Re: shifting issue with 3GMD/KM3-A

Just a quick follow-up, but my shifting problem may have just been dirty oil. It had plenty of oil when I checked this weekend, but it looked embarrassingly old - sort of milky cast to it as well. ...

Re: shifting issue with 3GMD/KM3-A

The low oil feedback is great - just what I was hoping for, some ideas from others that have seen some similar issue. Hope it is that easy, but it does act just as I expect the dry disc's would feel...

Re: shifting issue with 3GMD/KM3-A

Good thought - I have not yet checked anything related to the shifting, and have not checked the tranny oil since launching. It has never lost any in the past, but could have done so.

shifting issue with 3GMD/KM3-A

Looking for initial hints to troubleshoot the following shifting issue with my 3GMD and its typical Kanzaki transmission. Generally both the throttle and shift controls (1980's Morse single lever)...

Dumb question about holding tank structure

I have always ignored the mechanics of how the tank gets emptied. Just open deck plate and insert pump-out nozzle, or turn on macerator and let it pump, assume it works fine :) What i am curious...

Re: flushing/antifreezing 2gm20f

Just a quick thought on your statement of adding "antifreeze mix". I don't think you should use straight, undiluted, anti-freeze, not premixed to 50-50, etc. The reason is that it is going to mix...

Yanmar motor mounts versus the other sources

Before I knew any better (4 years ago, before SailNet fever) I had new mounts installed on my 3GMD, along with new shaft and cutlass (for excess play), etc. The main reason for the mounts was to...

Re: Engine coolant level

-----------------------
I think of this as just like the expansion tank in your car. It should be no less than the low mark when fully cold. If it drops out of sight when cold, it is allowing air...

Re: Engine Overheating

I have never owned a fresh water cooled marine engine, but isn't there a pressure cap just as in a car radiator? No one mentions checking or replacing that, but in a car radiator, a failing presure...

Re: Winterizing Penta MD6A Without Running It

I'll throw out some thoughts, since nobody who actually knows is responding. I would think it very hard to get everything done without starting the motor. The block can usually be drained with help...

Re: Blowers for a diesel

One more for a blower with diesel. My old Dufour 35 (1973) came with Volvo 36hp diesel and a permanently wired blower that was always on with ignition. Didn't even have an on-off switch. In line...

Re: Macerator pump maintenance

just a quick follow-up. I pulled the pump and opened it up. There were no ears at all left on the impeller. One was still in the pump cavity, broken off, while the rest of them had gone overboard....

Re: Macerator pump maintenance

Great tips. Everything from head into tank is fairly recent white hose, but I think the hoses to macerator and out to thru-hull are black. I am already a huge fan of a heat gun, or hot water, for...

Re: Lost My Zink

Have you checked to see if you have enough room between the prop nut and rudder to fit one of the zinc's made to bolt to that nut? couple of inches or so is all it needs.

Re: Lost My Zink

That 25mm Beneteau special looks just perfect. I hadn't appreciated how close 25mm is to 1" either and would never have caught this. Not only is it thin, it has lots of metal, unlike my cut down...

Re: Lost My Zink

That looks like the usual doughnut zinc. I guess that is a space saver versus the egg shaped shaft zincs, but I was hoping you found one of those doughnuts that was even thinner ;( . I cut those...

Re: Lost My Zink

I have never heard of this zinc reference. Does it mean that there is a...

Re: To store halyards or leave on mast?

I never used to pull the running rigging. Then I replaced all of the lines on my catboat three years ago and realized just how expensive those little buggers are. Well over $1k for Endura 12 lines...
