Re: Looking for a new slip for Fall

If you're checking out Rock Creek, take a look at Fairview Marina as well. We've been there 14 years and are still happy with the immaculate facilities, protection from weather, and high-quality...

Re: Raymarine Service

A still-under-warranty i70 unit stopped working last year. I sent it back to the Nashua repair center, per the instructions on the website and the local Raymarine tech, with the proof of purchase...

Re: An incredible sail

Lost in the whole thread:

That's amazing! I don't start looking for those until well south of the Potomac. I assume they didn't escape from the National Aquarium either.

Edit: I trust you...

Re: 2015 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

We've seen rays (or skate?) in the Patapsco off Rock Creek over the past two years. They're easy to spot in the early evening in flat water and light winds, when their fin tips just poke the surface.

Re: Leather Disgrace

Weren't some WM branded sailing gloves recalled a couple of years ago, because the materials used might cause skin irritation?

I've switched to Ronstan sailing gloves for the past couple of...

Re: Labrador...

All these pictures are terrific, but the photo of your boat anchored in Seglak Fjord is spectacular. Thanks taking us along on a fantastic voyage.

Did you single-hand the entire trip?

Re: Poll: Baltimore as a Destination

As a resident of Baltimore who has lived, worked, and walked in the city for the past 15 years, I have to finally weigh in here.

Yes, Baltimore has more than its fair share of challenges related...

Re: Whats your best bit of kit??

Great thread!

Id have to say the large-diameter wheel is my favorite bit of kit.

It allows me to comfortably sit outboard and drive, and, because I am fairly tall, when I stand behind the...

Re: Looking for premium coastal cruiser 39 LOA or less

The first thing that comes to my mind is X-Yachts; the Xc 35 or Xc 38 look like a sweet ride.

What is it about your Catalina 36 that makes you want to move up?

Re: Contest/Game - Identify this picture

The Lisbon Maritime museum does a great job highlighting the great contributions that Portugese explorers have made (although the Dutch held their own :) ). We enjoyed our visit there a couple of...

Re: Contest/Game - Identify this picture

The red swirl on the stack pack looks like it could be a Moorings logo. Was the photo taken near a charter base? Croatia, maybe Split?

Re: Contest/Game - Identify this picture

It sure is. Not much sailing going on on this section of the Rhine river, but the lakes in Switzerland look like amazing sailing venues.

Your turn!

Re: Contest/Game - Identify this picture

No, you still need to go much further west. And move over one continent.

Here's another view from the deck of the ferry, looking upstream. There is actually a huge clue in the photo.

Re: Contest/Game - Identify this picture

Sailing to this city would be tough, but a powerboat will get you there.

It's the lock in the original Chesapeake and Delaware Canal in Delaware City, before it was rerouted through Reedy Point.

Re: Anchor light for steaming: legal?

This is essentially how our boat is set up--all-around/anchor light over the tri-color at the top of the mast, and a bi-color on the mast where most boats would have a steaming light. Under sail, we...

Re: Contest/Game - Identify this picture

I recognized the logo from their advertising that was always plentiful in 1980s Europe. Oslo is at the end of a long fjord off the Skagerrak but I'd say it's more North Sea than Baltic Sea. And as...

Re: Contest/Game - Identify this picture

Does the lettering on the white ferry say Stena Lines? They run mostly to Scandinavian destinations. My guess is we're in Oslo, Norway, but I am not sure of the sky and water color clue...

Re: Contest/Game - Identify this picture

There is one huge "general location clue" in this one, but let's see if anyone recognizes the town.
