Re: Cabin comfort when motoring

Re: Advice From Young Punks

Youngish sailing punkette here.

Using your cell phone as a hot-spot will burn through your battery and your data plan quite quickly and should be considered a short run solution anywhere you can't...

Re: Boat as a weekend home on the Chesapeake?

I thought I'd update this older thread for anyone else searching the archives.*

I've had my sailboat for over a year now, and my original question seems almost ridiculously funny to me now. Today...

Re: Docking for Dummies

It's been a little over a year since I posted about my docking woes, and I thought I would update this thread, for any others in similar circumstances.

I did get a little better at docking during...

Re: Liveaboard woman alone

I'm a 'weekend' liveaboard, and a fairly new sailor. You've gotten a lot of good advice here, so my perspective will just be the 'things that surprised me about owning/living on a boat'.

1. How...

Re: The great things about owning a sailboat that no one tells you about

In a conversation with the previous owner of my boat during the purchase I mentioned that "I don't own a house, or a car, but now I have a sailboat. I suppose some people would call that crazy."

I've never tipped him and I've never seen anyone do so.

Re: Minimum wind for a Flying Scot?

I sail Flying Scots out of that same marina.

I'd say you want at least 5 knots of wind to move the boat; ideal sailing weather is 7-15. Light air is definitely better if you are sailing alone. ...

Re: Completed second solo Delaware Circumnavigation

Sound like a great trip! Thanks for sharing.

Mind if I ask why you decided not to anchor and sleep? Not enough time? Seems like a long time to go with just cat naps underway.

Re: Coastal Cruising Boat Selection Help

And congratulations on the boat! Sounds like a good thing you passed on the other candidates - you didn't sound very enthusiastic about them.

Re: Complete Newbie...No Idea What I'm Doing...

1) Maybe not insane, but if you trim this dream in the short run to stick to coastal sailing, your budget just got a lot more reasonable. Blue water boats are expensive, and rightly so.
2) I...

Re: How many women here own their own boat?

Add me to the list! Just bought my first boat, a Pearson 28-2! I've been sailing about 5 years, but mostly out of the marina where I took my sailing classes, on their Flying Scots.

Spent the...

Re: Young people and adventure

There's no right approach to being young.

I spent my 20s in graduate school, working until midnight every night and setting my alarm clock for 6am every Saturday so I could get a head start on...
