Re: Marina Closing

Interesting first post.

That covers a lot of area and a lot of marinas. You're interested in why a random marina closes?

Re: My new web site is up and running

He means his SailNet signature. The font was huge. I was fixing it and refreshing the thread to see that the changes took.

Re: Chesapeake Bay Eats

+1 on Osprey. One of my sail club members has a strict kosher diet as well as many food allergies. She called ahead to see what they could do and the chef made her a fantastic and memorable dinner.

Re: Provisioning for a small boat

When we had the 22 I bought an Igloo Ice Cube. It's more vertical than horizontal and took up less berth space. It also fit nicely in the middle of the boat between the berths for use as a table, has...

Re: Panama Canal Expansion

They are probably anticipating competition from both the as-yet-unbuilt Nicaraguan canal system and the potential for the Northwest Passage to thaw enough to allow regular ship traffic.

Re: Sailing Clothing

Where will you be sailing? Offshore? Coastal? Great Lakes?

We've found good prices in the sale section of APS (http://www.apsltd.com/)on last year's clothing.

Offshore I'd bite the bullet and...

Re: VSC saved me from CG boarding

If you get a VSC from the CG Auxiliary, it is not paid for from your tax dollars. The only time we get reimbursed from the Coast Guard is for expenses incurred when we're on CG-authorized patrols...

Re: VSC saved me from CG boarding

NOB, they don't "dig around in your boat." They sit in your cockpit or stand on the dock next to your boat if you don't want them on board, have a checklist and they ask you to show them the 10 or...

Re: Kirby 30 vs. Catalina 27

Welcome to SailNet and to sailing. Lots I could comment on here but I'll just say that the "smile" is not unique to Catalina. We had it, got it fixed. Done.

Re: Boat Ventilation

If you mean air in or air out, that's easy to change even after you install the vents. Ours came with two fan blades. Blades are facing different directions. Easy to pop out and put in the other if...

Re: Hello and I need help finding a trader

Volks,

You are floating on thin water. First, the trade was not removed because we really have no rules against it, only outright selling stuff. Which you cannot do because you have not been here...

When we get Next Boat, we're following our stomachs first, trade winds second.

Re: For Us Female Navigators Out There

I think "old ways" depends on where you sail. My current "old way" is using a paper chart as backup. I'm not crossing an ocean. A sextant is not practical for where I sail, always within site of land.

Re: The Talk

If a non-boater, a few days before I send an email that includes a brief statement about the head and why you can't flush anything that didn't come out of your body. I'm ok with the marine TP but...

Re: I Equate it to Driving in a Bad Snow Storm!

Then I'm not sure that I get the point of this thread. Sounds like the real question is how to set up your reefing system so it works.

Re: I Equate it to Driving in a Bad Snow Storm!

While I don't agree with the "no reefing" rule, let's keep the responses civil, please. It's not like he's dragging his first born behind the boat on the dinghy line.

Re: Extra rope/lines for a new boat

We don't carry spare halyards and sheets, but we do have at least a set and a half of extra dock lines. Any old lines go into the line locker for whatever comes up. We rarely retire a line completely...

Re: I Equate it to Driving in a Bad Snow Storm!

Yes.
