Re: What is the best sailing movie ever?

Deep Water is my fave.
It's a true story and honestly tells about the challenges and beauty of ocean sailing.

Re: Volvo Ocean Race.

It might seem simple, but it's not.
The charts in these areas are raster-images, and therefore the plotter as such does not know the depth. It is just images.
It's not like a depth sounder, where...

Re: Team Vestas Wind grounded in the VOR

From Wouters (navigators) own Facebook page:

We finally have means of communications again, so a message is highly over due....

I am totally devastated and still in shock as the gravity of our...

Re: Happy thanksgiving guys!!!

Living in Scandinavia I am not used to the Thanksgiving tradition, but I kindda like the idea, and I did have poultry tonight.
Happy thanksgiving to all on Sailnet. I am thankful for living in the...

Re: Pearons 28 passes Beneteau 46

Wow, this thing really escalated
We are all in different modes when we sail, and even in diffrent modes depending on the circumstances.
OP was probably in racing-mode at the time, the...

Re: Wet core in the hull - what are the options?

This thread is so predictable.
The usual suspects advising you to run away from a fast sinking boat. :)
Well that is always the "safe advice" but not very useful.
A lot of more information is...

Re: Micro cruisers

Here is small Danish classic. The Drabant 22. (6.6 m)
It was orignially launched in 1968 and, a couple of hundred were built until the mid 70'es.
They sail extremely well, and can still win trophys...

Re: Boat Insurance Rant

With that kind of argument you will still be happy if you have to pay 10 times as much?

Insurance is a betting game, don't pay more than what is fair, unless you want to contribute to the bottom...

Re: Buying my first boat please help

It's quite "funny" to read all this about brokers and surveys as a Dane.
Thousands of second hand boats are sold here every year, and almost none is handled by a broker, nor is there any survey...

Re: Interior Paint- marine grade or not?

To be honest, I have no idea, but my prep was not very thorrough. It was a dusty job, so I just did what I could with a brass-brush on my drill-machine.

Re: Interior Paint- marine grade or not?

My previous boat was painted with non-marine enamel in the forepeak.
It was a hell with large flakes falling off.
I stripped it down as good as I could, and cleaned with acetone and painted it over...

Re: And you thought you had a bad day...

There was no failure at all!
After the ship plowed through the boats at the marina, they headed out to sea, without as much as a VHF call.
Norwegian coast guard boarded the vessel an hour later,...

Re: sailed once with my uncle

Besides the fact, that the boat is dead, doesn't it require some kind for formal education in order to sail a boat of that size in the US?

Re: Flipper Scow similar to a Topper dinghy?

The Flipper was a big class in Denmark in the 70's and 80's.
It is a safe as any other 2 person dinghy. The special stern design was meant to make the boat sail over the waves instead of through...

Re: Dismasted in the Aegean - lessons to learn

If it was not hydraulic backstay tensioning, no human should be able to tighten the backstay enough to be the cause this kind of failure.
They just wanted to make sure that your insurance paid up. I...

Re: 220 buccaneer

I don't know this type of boat, but seems to be looking a lot like the Granada 23 from Denmark.
The Granada 23 sails very well.
Have attached a picture of one.

Re: Is external rudder a good idea?

I eventually took ownership of a Nordship 808 with the external rudder.
After having sailed it during the summer i love it. It responds like a dinghy and allows for easy manuouvering in the habours....
