Re: House bank

Thanks for the replies All. I have dug in and done some reading. I am going to add a third battery and it will be a starting/backup battery. The 2 existing batteries will become the "house". They're...

Re: No Main Fuse

[QUOTE=eherlihy;2500577]MRBF - Quick and done!

Did a draw measurement, using the glow plugs AND cranking at the same time. Showed around 226 amps. So I installed a 250 amp fuse on each battery. I...

Re: Whats your best bit of kit??

The tools I decided to include in my "marina mechanic style tool bucket". There's nothing I can't tackle on board; planned or unplanned.

Hi All,

I want to keep this simple so as not to tax the patience of my fellow Sailnetters. I currently have (2) group 27's on board. I have a battery selector switch and an on board (West marine)...

A faster refresh rate will always be more acurate, slow boat or not. Don't want to squable about that. The Lowrance system has to have it for radar overlay.

Re: chart plotter performance without external antenna?

Depends. My new Lowrance HDS has an internal antenna. They claim the external antenna has a faster update rate (which for us slow boats is a plus). If your going to eventualy have radar... and you...

re: Bum Flaps

OK, you learned about "Butt Flaps" on the internet. You expect us to go research this for ourselves and then answer your question? I have no idea what you're talking about.

No Main Fuse

Hi All,

This might be hard to believe... but my 35 year old boat doesn't seem to have a main DC breaker. As some of you may remember my engine wiring posts, there was no electrical protection for...

Re: Growing tired of cold water dripping on me

These things are great... only if the temperature IN the boat stays warm. If the inside temp is down around 45 - 50F, the dehumidifier will run all day long and not suck any moisture out of the air....

Re: iPad 4 as a GPS ?

I have this setup - iPad 4 and iNAV X. Used this cruising last year, worked just fine. I have a Garmin GPS portable and charts at the ready.

Re: How unsafe would this be for occasional heat?

No, no, no. If you did have a carbon monoxide detector it would be going off in 60 seconds.

Re: Is flying a pirate flag lame?

What Capt Jack is saying is something you're not getting. He doesn't need anyone's approval to do anything. That's what's wrong in our world today... everything you say and do has to be PC approved...

Re: US, Cuba seek to normalize relations - Sailing Related

I wouldn't get all excited about anything to do with sailing around Cuba just yet. Remember who we're dealing with here: Our President and their communist government. I want to be as optomistic as...

Lowrance 3G Radar

Hi All,

I posted this in the "electronics" sub forum, but it doesn't get travelled as much. Are there any 3G/4G broadband radar owners here? I pulled the plug for a 3G radar and Lowrance HDS...

Re: Automotive Heater

Our boat came with one installed. No way for the hot water from the engine to be turned off, so the water hoses going to the heater in the compartment next to the engine are always hot (not a big...

Re: Plastic 3 way valves

25+ years ago, that's what boats came with. I've got one and had to R&R and dissassemble it. After going through all that, I left the handle off and closed the sea cocks - have to use the holding...

Re: Engine Raw Water Plumbing Diameter

Hey 59r,

You didn't do anything except make the hole in your boat bigger. If your raw water cooling system works with 1/2", reduce the inlet and no worries. I have 3/4" everyhing to the pump, then...
