Re: Another America’s Cup entry destroyed

So- someone else said it- what I was getting at bug couldn't quite convey - boats that fall apart and kill people don't win. None of these teams want to lose, therefore they designed boats to be as...

Re: Another America’s Cup entry destroyed

It was an interesting discussion the first couple times. And it did get challenging trying to present the argument in a fresh light- each a bit brighter than its forerunner. Striving to convey some...

Re: Another America’s Cup entry destroyed

Alot of the arguments you put forth seem to come from a perspective that has trouble differentiating between entertainers- and competitors.

The guys sailing the boats- the competitors- are...

Re: Another America’s Cup entry destroyed

Odd- it seems that is exactly what it's about. Especially when it references "wide eyed city supervisors being bamboozled by Ellison"

Whose getting everything they want- Larry- the boats, the...

Re: Another America’s Cup entry destroyed

So at 2 fatalities in 130 years- you think it's less safe than which round the world race? 2 fatalities in 130 years makes it more likely than a fatality in the Olympics / run up to the Olympics? ...

Re: Danish Sailing Vessel taken by pirates

Somehow the war for oil was immoral- but killing for the sake of the convenience of .000000000002 percent of the population- the cruisers who will cruise the IO- is ok.

I'm embarrassed as a...

Re: Danish Sailing Vessel taken by pirates

I love it. Y'all are trigger happy as hell. Deploy US Military assets to clean up some one else's mess- in one breath and bitch about the cost to mount rescue efforts for vessels in distress in the...

Re: Another America’s Cup entry destroyed

And again- it's just so terribly condescending. Oh these poor dumb brutes- they haven't any choice in the matter- it's up to us to protect them. It's the sailnet PTA mom syndrome.

Re: Another America’s Cup entry destroyed

It could hurt my career to say no. Hahaha. This isn't blowing the boss under his desk- these serfs aren't being served up as cannon fodder to satisfy their lord's bloodlust. One doesn't arrive at the...

Re: Do dock lines go with the boat?

When I just sold lately, the contract/ bill if sale had a list of equipment specifically conveyed in the sale- and the buyer was sitting there as we made it up- and as I had a few things I needed...

Re: Steak, OMG! pan seared!

The salt is a desiccant and pulls moisture from the meat as it sits. Coming up to room temp is definitely preferred- and ya gotta have a dry skillet.

Re: Another America’s Cup entry destroyed

The problem with marketing them as personalities like NASCAR and other sports have- is that the tradition is of an international competition- country vs cointry

Also- these guys are all transient,...

Re: Steak, OMG! pan seared!

Ill take olive oil, coarse kosher or sea salt, and coarse black pepper (ground at that moment) and press a clove if garlic. Apply liberally to steaks- and let sit while the cast iron gets... Hot.

Re: Where are the younger people?

Entry fee for turn key about 5000
Followed by about 500 a month, maybe a bit less- 450.

That's moorage, and budget for maintenance and upkeep- and planning on a mainly DIY approach

Re: Where are the younger people?

Look at the guitar hero phenomenon. Kids who simply will not take an hour a day to learn guitar - which WILL get you laid- will spend hours daily on guitar hero- which will not. Why? God only knows....

Re: Deader in the Bahamas/Is Nassau getting that dangerous?

It's not necessarily about the trouble you'll run into- but about the trouble some of the folks in Nassau are making for each other and might make for you. I was there for Junkanoo this year and it...

Re: Another America’s Cup entry destroyed

That trip is totally mind blowing. The mental fortitude it required not too mention plenty of extremely "technical" sailing. A stunner for sure.
And I appreciate that sentiment of hoping the AC...

Re: Deader in the Bahamas/Is Nassau getting that dangerous?

I'd rather visit Oakland.

I always call it the Oakland of the carribean. You can keep it. It's ghastly- gunshots and sirens all night every night.
