I have a 79 Spirit 6.5. I been doing a little winter maintenance and sending her back to the slip tomorrow. I also have a friend with a 80 Spirit 23. We sail mostly on Cross Lake, in Shreveport, La.

My thinking is that if both the vang and the top are attached to the slide then when the top is up you should be able to pull the vang to shorten it therefore not aloowing the slide to travel back...

I have the same set up as pictured, minus the vang bail, which I think someone added to yours. I believe both the pop top and the vang connect to the slide hence the 2 holes. If so, the closed top...

Did you ever get and answer to this question? I recently purchased a 79 6.5 and trying to figure out the best solution to this before I step the mast. Any insite would be helpful.
