Re: When is a dirty bottom hopeless

All the logic here is impeccable. The research goes on but I am leaning out some at this point.

Re: When is a dirty bottom hopeless

I forgot to mention that osmosis issues remain a big concern. Diver indicates he saw a zinc which makes no sense after all these years. He evidently dove the hull for someone a couple months ago....

Re: What are the implications of buying a uSCG registered sailboat?

Yes I am in SC. Sounds like I need to call Dr to learn more about applicable local excise taxes. I don't see myself doing much international. She would be a coastal cruiser. Bahamas maybe but beyond...

Re: When is a dirty bottom hopeless

Well I am back after a couple days of further research. I am hesitant to say much here as one never knows who is reading? However I will say that after much looking the hull remains the major hurdle....

Re: Help with engine ID?

With further research I am suspecting it to be a RWC 3QM30H... now to find out if that is good news or bad. :-)

Help with engine ID?

Can anyone give me a definitive ID on the pictured engine? I know the pics aren't great but hopefully they are sufficient for those experienced with sailboat diesels. I am thinking Yanmar 3gm30.

What are the implications of buying a uSCG registered sailboat?

Like the question says... what are the advantages/disadvantages to purchasing a USCG registered 30' sailboat? Am I required to keep it federally registered and is there additional cost, inspection,...

Re: When is a dirty bottom hopeless

So Fast... You being a diver, how would you tackle a job like this? Have you done one this bad? What should I expect a diver to tell me. I ran my gopro on her yesterday and confirmed heavy hard...

Re: When is a dirty bottom hopeless

Thanks folks. This is the kind of input I was looking for. I do wonder about the hazardous waste question. I am also worried about laminate penetration, delam or blisters. My research confirms as...

Re: Sea water shower/flush question

Ha! Thanks for the heads-up on needing to be below water line. That makes perfect sense now that I have heard it. Sounds like a pump may be in my future. Will probably pressurize the whole system and...

Sea water shower/flush question

Given we use the boat for day sailing and as occasional weekender, we are pleased with our Thetford 365msd portapottie. We find the 5 gal holding tank sufficient and enjoy the simplicity of gravity...

Re: Need info on a boat!

GT one thing clearly in your favor is that you already know a pretty boat when you see one... the rest of the learning curve will come easy to someone like you...

But I would agree something a bit...

Re: How do I start my sailing adventures.

An affordable way to start on a trailer sailor. Google this term for lots of info. Keep the boat in the yard and launch from ramp. This assumes someone has a tow vehicle. But the benefits are...

Re: Cleating off Furling line?

I can see how alignment would work with your setup. But are you saying you do need cleat off aft of the cam cleat? I am not sure I would trust a cam cleat hold if away from the boat.

Re: Would you work 1 additional year to go from $50k to $150k boat

Sounds like you are wrestling with two issues... Time and boat quality. It also sounds like you may actually prefer a new boat and are trying to figure out how to make that happen. I think you need...
