Re: Advice For Good Boat To Learn On

Saratoga Lake Sailing Club sounds a lot like Nyack Boat Club since it is a working member club. Working clubs tend to be less high brow - which I like.
Most clubs have a bulletin board somewhere on...

Re: Advice For Good Boat To Learn On

Nancy,

Yes, the Pearson Ensign is an older design with many examples still around from the 1960's on up. You can still buy them new but not in your price range.

Re: Universal Oil filter

As long as they both mate properly with your oil system (eg., not leak) either will work.
The Fram filter likely has more actual filter material in it and may be a better filter to use with an old...

Re: The impossible happened

We developed a "death roll" and when the...

Re: Outhaul repair/replacement

McMaster Carr has quite a number of sizes of delrin sheaves in stock sizes.
I used one when I replaced an internal boom sheave for our outhaul.
Second Amsteel line instead of wire rope.

Re: tiller / rudder to stiff? wy

From looking at the diagram posted by Tempest of the rudder & rudder shaft assembly on the P26 it looks like you could have worn out bushings that could somehow make turning the rudder difficult.
Or...

Re: Adding a topping lift, or the heck with sheaves

I have used those delrin sheaves from McMaster to replace a sheave in my boom.
One nice thing about the delrin is I was able to easily adjust the shape of the sheave a bit by sanding the sides to...

Re: First time crewing/racing this weekend

Glad you liked the ILCA website. Tons of info there on racing Lightnings.

A bit more advanced is this quiz on the racing rules which get a bit more complex.

Re: Lower rudder bushing

West system also sells the graphite powder to make a low friction surface.

I'd wipe a thin layer of vaseline on only the rudder shaft before pouring the epoxy; this will act as a mold release once...

Re: Brand Spanking New To The Sailing World

Well, the price was certainly more than reasonable and since it is a trailer sailor you will be saving yourself a boatload of money on storage fees. You can use that money you are saving on new...

Re: Need suggestions - 20' competitive lake boat

The Lightning 19' is also quite sporty and light weight.
Not much of a cuddy cabin though.
RichH wants you to get a Scow so he has a new person to race with(against).

Re: Odd feature on my old Venture 21

Sounds a bit big for an anchor locker on a 21' sailboat but that is what most builders put in that location.
