Re: Progressive Insurance Claim question

Of course that is what the insurance industry wants you to believe. The industry works very hard to deliver that message.

In reality, it is surprisingly difficult to fake an injury and would take...

Re: Progressive Insurance Claim question

I am an attorney for plaintiffs in injury claims. Allstate has been considered the worst insurance company for many years. Not one of the worst--the absolute worst. State Farm is right up there. ...

Re: Top 10 Sailing Destinations in the U.S.

I think most of those places have a lot of boats because they are near large population centers. My favorite places to sail are where I see few, if any, other boats. I sailed one time out of...

Re: slip vs. mooring

See, for me it's just the opposite. I would not be compelled to "hang out" on my boat tied to a dock within feet of other boats tied to the dock. It's like being in a parking lot, for boats. In...

Re: Bet your Marina doesn't do this on Opening day!

I'm pretty sure the people at my marina would think it is an early Halloween if someone showed up in one of those white sailor's costumes.

Re: slip vs. mooring

I would never give up my mooring for a slip. I like the privacy and the motion of the boat on a mooring. I spend quite a bit of time on the boat on the mooring, either before or after sailing, or...

Re: Charter/rental woes...and question

We had similar language when I worked for a marina renting Rhodes 19s for daysails to the general public. In practice, we only kept deposits when it was operator error that caused the damage (i.e.,...

Re: I Paid a Dude. And I Liked It.

The title of this thread could suggest something way....uh..... well never mind.

I have no problem paying for service. We place a huge emphasis on saving -- but we do have lives to live. I...

Re: 40 ft sailboat with 800kg/1729 Lbs Drugs arrested!!

I get why they claim they need to do this -- but it is beyond any sense of reason.

Consider that the feds could walk into retail stores in Washington and Colorado (and soon more states) and seize...

Re: 40 ft sailboat with 800kg/1729 Lbs Drugs arrested!!

Ridiculous that my tax dollars are paying these yahoos to seize pot (of all things) way outside the jurisdiction of the U.S.

Re: this puts the price of boats into perspective

That's not a bad way to do it, but it wasn't without a little luck. Had you immigrated to the U.S. in 2006 and bought your first home, you would probably have filed for bankruptcy by now.

I'm...

Re: this puts the price of boats into perspective

Ha Ha -- good one!

Well, at age 36, wife age 34, our only debt is on our (modest) home and an investment property that generates income beyond it's debt and expense payments. And less than 60% of...

Re: this puts the price of boats into perspective

Well, duh. That's sorta the point. If you cannot buy the boat without financing, don't buy the boat.

Re: this puts the price of boats into perspective

It's one thing to strategically use financing to buy a boat because it is better for your overall financial portfolio, which might be the case for any number of tax, accounting or investing reasons....

Re: Stay away from Key Colony Beach...Sailing Related version.

This sounds more like a local zoning law intended to prevent nuisance situations in the community. For example, I am sure many municipalities ban people from living in an RV in someone's driveway. ...

Re: Are sailing magazine articles boring?

Alright, I'll admit it. I subscribe to Sail. And I like it.

I've actually found myself reaching for Sail over Good Old Boat when both come at around the same time. I like the information in...

Re: Sailnet 2014 Lost at Sea

Your link doesn't work but it doesn't take too much sleuthing on that site to see he is being held on $500,000 bail.

Or, that his last date of activity on this website mirrors the date of arrest...

Re: Quick Advice: Donating a boat ride for charity

What is the purpose of getting a receipt for the value of a 1 week rental unless you are planning to take a deduction for the value of the 1 week rental?

Anyway, totally not allowed.

Example 2....

Re: Funding retirement boat

Re: Funding retirement boat

I don't like any of those options if you're talking about traditional "retirement" -- i.e. 60+ end of career move.

Turning any of your retirement investments into a boat seems like a bad move. ...

Re: .25 gal/hr. Really???

I would want a well cared for, simple, small diesel inboard (like my Yanmar 1 GM) for a long distance motoring trip that is mainly on protected waters.

You just can't beat the reliability and...

Check out Bellingham Washington and the nearby marinas/communities. You sound like you'd fit in a lot better there, than some of the cities on the East Coast being recommended to you.

Inarguably...

Re: .25 gal/hr. Really???

My Yanmar 1 GM, I believe, sips less than .25 gal/hour at around 2500 rpm.

I have not formally taken measurements, but honestly I would not be surprised if it actually uses less than .25 gal/hour....
