I agree about the straight back first, but it feels like it is still fully bolted on, not a hint of looseness in any direction. As we used to say, I won't force it, I'll just use a bigger hammer. ...

According to the manual it was fitted with the 5411 and it is raw-water cooled. Too hot to go there today, sometime this week probably.

Thanks for the info, I'll attack it again in a week and report back. I have a CAL 25 1985-ish btw, I see you have a CAL as well.

Looks like I need to remove my starter to get to the freeze plug behind it that appears to be popped (I hope!).

There appears to be two bolts holding it on, the top one came out ok, the bottom one...
