Practical Sailor did a good review assesment of the deckvest after the fatality, worth a read. Indications are conditions were quite severe and implications are that fatalities could of occured...

Being wearing spinlock deckvest for about 15 years, presently on second one and love it. Have worn them for extended periods and find then very comfortable.

We have two foam to cover cg reqr, usually have inflatable belt when in dingy if rough or current. Easy to stow in seat, and keep our expensive pfd/harness aboard mothership

Unless on a very large boat, very uncomfortable place to dock, major wave action. Cheaper and more comfortable to stay x river at Libery Landing and take water taxi over.

Not personally, but been a fair number of boats cruise Newfoundland, and a few have been North of 60 around Baffin and Greenland. Recently was a sailor who did the NW passage.
