Re: Mounting hardware on Boom

This seems to be logical to me in my situation. I have to add many things to my boom but it is on a small boom with far from 1/4'' thick alum. So, stainless rivets were my question. Seems like a...

Re: Adding a topping lift, or the heck with sheaves

Thanks, well thats two for the boom kicker! My wife likes the idea of them too and it isn't much of a difference in price. Time to look at these too! I love how as I finish projects on a boat the...

Re: Adding a topping lift, or the heck with sheaves

That makes perfect sense. I would have fun full into the dyneema and cleat issue since I don't have any yet on the boat. Woulda been a head slapper, thanks. On the adjusting, same thing, thanks. ...

Re: Adding a topping lift, or the heck with sheaves

Re: Adding a topping lift, or the heck with sheaves

We secure our halyard so that it doesn't do such a thing. Never heard of moving it to the boom for neighbor annoyance avoidance. But then we are in Alaska and the odds of a "neighbor" doesn't come...

Re: Adding a topping lift, or the heck with sheaves

I will grab some pics of the sheaves from the side today. It doesn't appear obvious how they were attached. Great idea on running it the other way and dead ending at the mast instead. That would...

Adding a topping lift, or the heck with sheaves

Hey all! Any help on this one would be much appreciated and it really is a two part sort of thing where one answer may solve both issues.

We have the mast down on our M25 1981 and are doing some...

Re: Pros and cons of steel sailboats

Classic,

In my field and many others it is your body of work. You do anything you can without initials, membership whatever to begin to build it. In my field there are more certifications and...

Re: Nothing has changed in 50 years...many sailors still can't navigate...

Wow. Very sad indeed.

In fact, I bet I could search the internet and come up with example after example of similar tragedies repeated in many pursuits throughout history. And then I could...

Re: Pros and cons of steel sailboats

Up here in AK almost everyone in my old neighborhood planned, built and finished their homes. Contractor's and architects were not exactly common. BUT NONE OF THEM claimed to be home designers or...

Re: Nothing has changed in 50 years...many sailors still can't navigate...

This thread just looks like another thread that separates the "us" from "them" and makes people feel good about themselves. Sorry, I find these just plain sad.

Re: Pros and cons of steel sailboats

I had a whole response to this typed out when I realized that I am just turning into Don Quixote fighting windmills. Boats take forever to build and then just a few hours, it just isn't worth the...

You mean the Bob that volunteers to teach elementary students about boats? How often do you volunteer your time to teach children?

Re: Pros and cons of steel sailboats

Happy Belated Thanksgiving everyone. I was outta town this week. Actually traveling to remote communities in Bristol Bay. For the record, didn't see a single steel boat out there. Size limit for...

Re: Is flying a pirate flag lame?

So this gives me an idea! When my wife and I want a quiet night on the hook follow these steps...

1. Get there first and take the best spot
2. Hoist the Jolly Roger
3. Play "Who let the dogs...
