Re: Winter sailing months around NC, SC,

Winter is generally not too bad here in NC. Even if you only like sailing in really fair weather, there will be quite a few days you can get out. There are alot less power boats to deal with as well....

Re: Online Almanac and Sight Declination Tables?

It's funny, someone told me that today. I'm going to check it out. I just took my first sight yesterday and wrote down all the info + GPS coordinates and I am currently going through the DVD...

Re: Online Almanac and Sight Declination Tables?

As always, you Sailnet guys have come through! Thank you so much! I'm planning on at least attempting to learn the calcs so I need as little as possible, but from what I've heard this may take...

Hello Everyone,

I am new to celestial navigation. I just purchased my first sextant, but I was wondering if anyone knew of online nautical almanac and/or sight declination tables? I don't really...

Re: Can I Take It Into The Ocean?

Have you found one yet? If you do, you may consider strengthening up the rudder post for a little extra insurance. Not sure about the new ones, but the really old ones are hollow. Otherwise the boat...

Re: Can I Take It Into The Ocean?

Fair enough. Not saying a J/24 is built for chop, but I just had a really hard time getting enough power out of the Hunter. This was an older Hunter in not the best shape, but the J/24 in very...

Re: Can I Take It Into The Ocean?

Stay very close to shore in a Hunter. I used to have access to a Hunter 25 and took it in the ocean a few times. The boat just really wasn't built for it. In bigger conditions it doesn't handle well...

Re: Offshore Checklist

No one has mentioned emergency supply of water? I also like to carry a PLB whenever I leave sight of land. A separate hand bearing compass is nice. Rigging knife and extra line is a must. Handheld...

Re: Darkside My A$$

Cleaning up the hulls shouldn't be too bad. Those rudders look like a fun project! Put on an asym, trapeze, and you can probably go faster than this guy.

Re: interesting rescue worth discussing

I thought the Coast Guard didn't tow anymore? Or will they tow if you are close in?

Re: Shoestring Hunter Adventure

Made it into Washington at 5:00 PM today. Sailed dead downwind for about 6 hours to outrun a storm. Didn't know a Hunter 25 could average 6.5 knots against the current! Pictures and videos to come....
