Re: Precision Sails or North Direct.....

I keep my boats some distance away, so no pics right now but might have some in September. That being said, if you look at the Precision web site there's an extensive photo gallery of their sails in...

Re: What is "german style sheeting"?

The German sheeting system is called so because it was first used on a German Admirals cup boat.

This is a drwing of the "original" system...

Re: Do You Pole out your Jib?

For the observant, that Volvo racer actually has a pole out. Note his bowsprit. The sail on it is a code 0 asymmetric on a top-down furler. When you travel at speeds of 20kts+ you drive the...

Re: Merit 25 sailors?

A little late, but thought I would give you my thoughts. I just pulled my Merit out of the water a month and a half ago.

I agree with SHNOOL about the keel guide. It's absolutely necessary and...

Re: Merit 25 sailors?

Sorry Christian, didn't notice the thread...

Keel guides are a must, or at least, if you can fashion something that'll steer the keel to the center of the trailer. PVC pipe works, we're talking...

Re: Off-loading from Trailer

Actually its not uncommon to have a boat do that on a trailer. A trailer retrieved sailboat, will usually impact the winch support lower than it actually sits, and sadly many trailers have a bow...

Re: Merit 25 sailors?

Chrisian, install a flicker! A batten bolted to the masthead, with a block on the end attached through an eyebolt. Run the backstay through it, but it works better if you replace your backstay with...

Re: Merit 25 sailors?

Nice to see you brought a old boat back to life. I sailed a Merit 25 for close to 9 years.

Didn't see your spin pole up on deck in the pictures.

If you hookup your topping lift then run the...

Re: Just Go!

I guess this thread was geared toward people with boats already, but waiting until they think they have the perfect boat. I've said it before, but all you really need is a safe boat, below the...

Re: Merit 25 sailors?

I'm running tapered sheets lead up to the cabin top winches.

Starting from the sail the sheet goes through:
- the twinger/tweaker which is lead to max beam on the boat at the toe rail.
- The...

Re: Removing/Cleaning/Replacing DataMarine Transducer

Christian

By 'display' I was referring to the actual LCD module itself, not the entire display head. The module is around $60US, I've ordered a couple of them over the years from Signet in...

Re: Any way to check keel bolts?

I think the question of quality of build is off base
as a previous owner of an early 70's columbia ... they were built like tanks
i still think the OP should refer this question to the columbia...

Re: Merit 25 sailors?

This is the same part that broke. Mine are stainless straps that fatigued with age and use. Easy fix but we had to retire from racing. Luckily it wasn't blowing very hard.

Re: Brunswick Landing Marina,Ga.

No other marinas. We did anchor out a few times. One good anchorage is off St. Simon Island, near Morningstar Marina. Quite a tide runs there.

Another quite nice anchorage we found, was off the...

Re: Merit 25 sailors?

I have a 3350 MORC section. I looked at that tuning guide and I think it's a little high. In San Fran it's windy and I think that works fine, but on the bay you need a little more give. And I use a...

Gary was vague about whether he desired the green coconut margarita or his Barbie-like companion to be "bottoms up".

Chistian is without his trousers,...
