Re: bermuda 40

We love our Morris Justine. It seems like a perfect couple boat to us. We love the secure cockpit, bulwarks, quality construction and balanced handling. Might be tight for 4.

We're not super...

Re: Varnish Blushing

Unless you are trying to achieve close to perfection, I would just lightly sand it with 220 and put a new coat on. The blush will mostly disappear.

Re: Finishing brand new teak cockpit table

My table is straight. That does make it easier. I think you can do a reasonably good good on tables and such with out taking them apart, but you can certainly do a better job if
they are apart. I...

Re: Finishing brand new teak cockpit table

About 4 yerars ago I completely stripped my Edson cockpit table with a heat gun and scrapper.

Then I followed the Epifanes directions for varnishing it and it still
looks terrific. The only...

Re: north sail vs doyle

I recently ordered a new genoa from my (relatively) local Doyle loft. They tell me it will be made in Florida. They did come an measure the boat and were responsive to my questions and...

Re: My Fairclough Cover Failed

I just received my new Faircough cover this winter. I mentioned to them that I planned to move to Maine and that I wanted to be sure the cover would be OK for a Maine winter. They didn't mention...

Re: Chart Plotter Location?

My chart plotter is under the dodger. I have wind and a multi-instrument at the helm.

But, as I'm transitioning to NEMA 2k and my multi-instrument is dead, I'm considering
adding a second,...

Re: new multi-instrument, Simrad IS15 replacement

Thanks for the input.

While I am happy with the long life I got out of my old 0183 Simrad equipment, I'm very reluctant to go with any supplier that uses non-standard NEMA2000 cables. I find it...

new multi-instrument, Simrad IS15 replacement

The Simrad IS15 multi instrument has become intermittent. I guess I need to replace
it (unless some has repair suggestions).

Everything is 0183, but my new chartpotter (Garmin 740) can do nema...

Re: insurance?

Most of my past experiences with insurance companies have been terrible, but I have to admit, Boat US was very fair when my boat was damaged in Sandy.

It might have been my first good experience...

Re: Maine expensive winter storage

I'm definitely keeping the haul, washdown, stands, etc in mind when comparing prices.

I understand waterfront property is expensive, but I guessed it would be much more expensive close to NYC vs....

Re: Maine expensive winter storage

I'm seeing about $2700 in Maine vs. about $1500 in central NJ for a 36' sailboat.

This doesn't make sense to me (except for cats). Here in NJ it's done by length. In Maine it's seems to be...

Maine expensive winter storage

I've been reviewing prices at boat yards in mid-coast Maine and am surprised how expensive it is. It seems odd that they charge by sq foot, not just length. But what is most surprising is that it...

If I connect my new 740s to an analog depth transducer will it output the depth reading onto the nema 2000 network? I'd like it to show up on other instruments and maybe on a second GPS. I can't...

Re: Stowing drop boards?

My boat came with a great solution. A canvas envelope with 3 sections hanging inside the lazarette. Just open the hatch and slip them in. There is no where for them to move to.

Yanmar 3JH3E RPM gauge intermittent

The RPM gauge on my Yanmar 3JH3E is intermittent. It sometimes works for
15 to 30 mins when the engine is first started. Any guesses as to if it's the gauge
or the sensor.

The sensor is...

Re: hauling her home instead of storing at the yard

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I don't expect it to be cheaper than yard storage, but I would be able to get an amazing amount of work done on her.

I can easily estimate all the costs except...

hauling her home instead of storing at the yard

I was wondering if it was practical to have my 36'x12' sailboat hauled
to my home instead of leaving her at the yard. Draft is 4'6". Anyone have an idea what it would cost to have a sailboat this...
