Re: Outboard advice for 22 footer

Re: Outboard advice for 22 footer

I've been researching on this for awhile. The 6hp seems to be the accepted size for a 22 foot trailerable sailboat. Gives ya enough oomph to make progress against waves/currents/winds. Nissan,...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

I have a '71 long shaft Johnson 6hp and have been doing research. There is enough info on the 'net that one could rebuild these motors top to bottom. I can't answer your question because it depends...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

Yes the factory level is the best setting. It allows the correct amount of fuel to be picked up by the jets. Whatever their size. And yes it is sometimes necessary to go in there and free the...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

Thats true about seized motors. But being water cooled they can rely on that and push the temps higher. Going up a size or 2 on the jet will bring your temps down.
One thing I forgot to say. The...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

Rejetting the carbs isn't rocket science. It is routinely done on motorcycles. Every bike you see with aftermarket exhaust (that means probly 75% of em) has been rejetted- or should have been. There...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

Gentlemen- I have read through a lot of this thread. I have little experience with outboards but a LOT with motorcycles. And Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki are motorcycle manufacturers first and foremost. And...

Re: Chrysler 22

I am in north central Arizona and just bought a Chrysler 22. The boat and OB (a 6hp Johnson) seem good but the trailer is shot. Probably dipped in salt water years ago. Also the fore hatch cover is...

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

Wow I had no idea! I figure making a boat blue water capable has got to be expensive. I never even thought about customs, etc! Other than Canada. I'm glad I don't have the urge to do such things. By...

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

Yes I plan to step my mast myself. But use of the motor is mandatory for much of the Loop due to lack of wind, canals, etc. One of the good things about going so small enginewise is .5 gph fuel use....

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

I am glad to read this thread. In my case I don't wish to leave the country, just do the Great Loop. I have a 22' trailerable sailboat and no debt. At all. Though maybe I should replace my 1971...

Re: new compass 22 ft boat

I have an old 22' sailboat and am likewise considering a compass. May I ask- why don't you want to drill the bulkhead? It seems an excellent location.

Honda motorcycles have a reputation as being bulletproof. Their automobiles have a strong rep too. I'd be surprised if it just died like that.
