Re: Our elusive dream... Found!

Welcome to SailNet, Cande. I added a link to your post as most people don't think about going to the albums to see pictures. You can also add pictures within your post.

Have fun with your new boat!

Re: How many women here own their own boat?

I overcome my fear (yes. still have it) by not worrying at the moment what others think of me. Everyone was a beginner once. If they can't remember what that felt like then so be it. Focus on the job...

Re: Help a newbie out-1980 Catalina 22 for $2350

Sailing is one activity where I have never said "I envy you for being at the beginning of this learning curve" because there is ALWAYS another curve to climb. It is what you put into it and if you're...

Re: Help a newbie out-1980 Catalina 22 for $2350

I thought that's what those were but found the location odd. We added shore power to our 22 (not a Catalina) and put the outlet inside the cockpit. That location is way too close to the water.

Re: Help a newbie out-1980 Catalina 22 for $2350

Alexander, keep in mind that no matter what boat you buy, your initial cost to buy it is not the end of putting money into it no matter how well kept the boat was. You'll have upkeep, upgrades you'll...

Re: Help a newbie out-1980 Catalina 22 for $2350

I disagree as long as the trailer is sound. Just the boat? Probably. But the OP might want to compare it to similar looking boats for sale in his area.

Dirt will wash off.

I don't know the...

Re: Help a newbie out-1980 Catalina 22 for $2350

I googled Portland Oregan sail clubs and came up with quite a few.

When I decided to get into sailing I joined a local sailing club. $40/year. It's a good way to learn if you don't want to pay...

Re: New to Sailing but Want to Learn

Welcome to SailNet.

What worked for me was joining a local sail club. Inexpensive and members are usually happy to have newcomers on board. You also get a taste of different boats and captain...

Re: Get a Boat. Get a Crew. Sail the World. Simple?

Start by looking for local sail clubs and finding one to join. The rest will follow.

Who knows? You may be back here in six months asking our opinions on that "perfect" boat you've found for...

Re: Get a Boat. Get a Crew. Sail the World. Simple?

Welcome to SailNet, James.

Personally, I would get more sailing experience before buying the boat you plan to sail the world on. That's a huge investment should you find out that you don't like...

Re: How to know for certain whether marinas actually *do* or don't want liveaboards?

My marina doesn't advertise liveaboard rates, yet we have a few who live aboard. It's only a guess but I get the feeling that by not advertising, they have an "out" if the person and/or the boat...

Re: 2015 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

We're still not in the water. I'm not happy. The marina owner called me this morning and I politely told him how unhappy I am. He promised that tomorrow the new marina manager (who promised me we'd...

Re: Found This Bristol for Sale - Thoughts for New Sailors?

Personally, if those were my only three choices, I'd be all over that Tartan. Look beyond the tired cushions and the need for a bit of wood oil.

Re: Found This Bristol for Sale - Thoughts for New Sailors?

Yes. Marine electricians.

That said, my SO is an industrial electrician but he knows how to install marine grade wiring and how to read the regulations and whatnot.

I trust that he's not going...

Re: Found This Bristol for Sale - Thoughts for New Sailors?

That's good to hear about Liberty Mutual. It sounds like they've changed. When we purchased our current boat my LM agent (they insure our house and cars) told me not to use them as they don't insure...

There is a huge difference between the answers resulting from your thread title and what you asked for in your first post. Some of the responses are generic to offshore cruisers, which won't apply to...

Re: How did you get your spouse to embrace the cruising life?

Perhaps you and your wife could take a sailing course together? That puts you on equal footing and in a learning environment where someone else is the responsible party.

There are also women only...
