Re: Marine Air Conditioning Install

I've got a Catalina 34 that I put a 16k BTU AC unit in when I bought the boat 4 years ago. I believe the unit was about $2400 and $900 for the install which we were able to do on the cheap. I had...

Re: Catalina 34

If you want info on the C34, go here The Catalina 34 International Association (http://www.c34.org/)
Before buying mine, I spent a lot of time on the C34 owners website and got tons of help and...

Re: I-30 water tank issue

Looks like a check valve to me. Might be stuck closed or partially closed.

Re: Predicting Sea Nettles

I remember back in '72 when I was a teenager (yes, I'm that old) when hurricane Camille or Agnes (can't remember which) came thru and all that fresh water just washed away ALL the nettles. Not one...

I've never had the opportunity to try it, but that home rememdy has been suggested for many years.

Re: no water output at exhaust

I'm no mechanic, but couldn't the blockage be downstream as well? I'd double check your impeller to make sure it is mated to the shaft.

Re: 1981 - Catalina 30' or Sabre 30'?

I really don't know anything about Sabre's other than the reputation of being one of the better quality boats. I used to have a C30 some years ago and now have the C34. The help and advice I have...

Re: Deck stains

That's why I bought a low PSI electric unit. There's risk in anything you do, including using bleach. Just be careful.
Try it once and you'll say "why haven't I done this before now"?
The guy...

Re: Deck stains

Mine is a 1500 PSI and I have 3 tips. I use the middle spray tip. No reason not to use a gas unit, just don't use too narrow a spray tip and start off with some distance from the deck and find your...

Re: Deck stains

Back to the power washer....I don't advocate the regular use of one, just once or twice a year for the heavy duty cleaning. In between, just use any decent boat wash that won't wash away your hull...

Re: Deck stains

Why use bleach or any kind of cleaner when a power washer will do even better.
Now if the gelcoat is worn away, that's a whole different problem that will only be corrected by paint or re-gelcoating...

Re: Deck stains

power washer will do it and you don't even have to use any cleaners. I did my boat a couple of weeks ago and was amazed at the results. My boat is the cleanest is has been since I bought it. I...

Seoane only posted twice and that was 2 years ago. Doubtful that he still looks at Sailnet.

Re: Location of official hull number

Mine is on the inside of the hull underneath the V-berth. As others mentioned, it could be anywhere, you just have to open up every little nook and granny and look.

Re: Need small polisher

Thanks guys. I've seen the Griot unit and I'm sure it's good, but I prefer not to have an orbital unit. I really like a variable speed polisher.

The drill is an option, but I prefer a right...

Need small polisher

Like a lot of people, I have the Northern Freight 7" Polisher-Sander I picked up for around $40. For my needs it does a good job.
However, I really could use a smaller, 4" or so, variable speed...

Re: Mooring ball slap damaging my awlgrip topside ?

zeehag,
You are aware that there are some brands of high end ($$$) yachts that come from the factory painted with Awlgrip or similar paints. Why would they do that if gelcoat is so great?

Re: VHF Remote Control

The best location is where it is easily accessible while at the helm, not in the way when not in use and...hopefully, easy to run the wire from the RAM to the radio.

Re: Concern about lightning strikes

Do sailboats get hit by lightening? Yes. How often? not very.
I'm at a marina with at least 50 sailboats. Almost all are bigger, or a lot bigger, than your trailer sailer. The majority are in...

Re: Life in a Catalina

I used to have a Catalina 30, now have a C-34. Never did lots of traveling in it...mostly short hops, but I see no reason why a C-30 won't do what you are asking of it. I might suggest finding one...

Re: Painted prop

Agree that it is most likely Pettit Zinc Coat. That's what I use and it does a good job. From everything I've read, PropSpeed is probably better but way more expensive and labor intensive to use.
