Re: Groco Seacocks BV vs. FBV

I used the FBV 3 years ago, and so far so good. I also have a 6-year old BV series. The BV does feel much smoother - the FBV always feels a little gratey when moved, which I hope isn't corrosion on...

Re: Lower rudder bushing

The bronze on bronze approach used on my Bristol lasted 30 years and at least 10,000 hours of use, so I'm inclined to think it has something going for it.

Re: Lower rudder bushing

Delrin is a machinable plastic so you need an ordinary machine shop, not a plastic fabricator. It would be made on an ordinary lathe.

You need to make a drawing or sketch of what you want, and...

Re: What to do with 450' of 1" line that -- ready for this? -- floats!

Cut in into two 200ft lengths, and keep it in case you ever need to more at the mooring balls here at Ayala Cove (or anywhere else with mooring balls 200ft apart!)

Re: House batteries won't start engine - ideas?

I went through this recently on my boat.

Fundamentally the problem is likely to be a high resistance connection somewhere, because it's loose or corroded. At starting currents, even a fraction of...

Re: Caulking bottom of new rope clutches

Actually I found similar plate at Metals Depot and it's quite a bit cheaper. I just bought 14 gauge 304 s/s plate, 0.075" thick. $16 for a 1' square sheet. Same cost again for shipping.

Re: Is this pro wiring?

I just bought some custom battery cables from them, the quality is great and so was the price.

Re: Updating DC System

It's spelt "busbar" btw. From the latin, Omnibus, or "for all"

Boomer, I've just been upgraded the cabling on my Universal 5424, because it was turning over a little slowly.

I added the Blue...

Re: Looking for Universal M30/5424 Exhaust Manifold

Heat exchangers are no worry, easily obtainable. Also 2440 hours is not high. A well maintained diesel will do 5,000 to 10,000. Sherwood raw water pumps are getting dearer as they get rarer, but the...

Re: Engine Oil for Marine Diesel

I've always used Shell Rotella T 15w/40. It contains 1200ppm of ZDDP, more than enough. If you are worried about wear, I suggest using this.

I don't know about Delo. Edit : it seems that Delo 400...

Re: Sunbrella: What color is used on your boat?

The best colour is, of course, Royal Blue Tweed.

Re: Raw water intake

The hoses from seacock to strainer, and from strainer to raw water pump, have suction on them and hence can collapse if the intake gets a bit blocked. You need proper Trident reinforced hose, like...

Re: Diagram for upgrades - will they work?

If you can reduce the angle formed by the deck organisers on the halyards, that would reduce the load on the organisers. It looks like 90 degrees might be necessary to avoid the hatch slides, though....

Why mess about renting rivet guns, or strapping things to other things, when you can buy this and have it in your tool kit, ready for next time :

Re: Atomic Diesel 5432 Fresh Water Pump

So the Bosch 72150 oil filter works very well as a replacement for Universal p/n 298852

I also found that the fuel filter on the engine, Universal p/n 298854, can be replaced by all these: Wix...

Re: Atomic Diesel 5432 Fresh Water Pump

Another interesting snippet for you : the oil filter for my 5424 is identical to Bosch 72150, which is available at AutohausAZ right now for $3.81. I just bought 5 of them. I've been using them for...

Re: new wood and varnish ???

I'd agree with that, apart from the ending at non-thinned. I find 10% thinner helps in several ways - it goes on better, you get a smoother finish, and it dries more quickly so there's less chance of...

Re: Atomic Diesel 5432 Fresh Water Pump

Like Denise said, you need to find out the Kubota block number and then what tractor they put it in.

For example, my Universal 5424 has a D-1101 block and they put it in the L245 tractor. Right...

Re: 5200 Bond

When they remove an old car windshield, they use a wire. Thread it through, wrap it around a piece of wood on each side of the window, pull it around, cutting the sealant.

Just saying.
