Because of where the tear is, on the seam and the luff. If you were to be able to effect a repair it would have to be sewn. Tape is not going to fix that imo

I just used a paint scraper, ( the kind that has a pointy end ) and a cabinet scraper in other places.

The other thing that comes to mind is that beside dirt and grime sometimes there's bedding...

Often, it's because dirt and gunk can collect under the track if it's deck mounted.
If mounted on a teak toe rail, I just spent time scraping out old...

NOB....do you know if you have a photo diode? ...your anchor light may have a setting that has it come on when the ambient light gets low. A Solar setting.
