Buy an otterbox for your phone or same type of case for your ipad...completey waterproof, drop proof etc...well as proof as proof can be.:D

As long as you get a 3G model you wont need an external puck of any kind....as for the price, they need to be competitive...Garmins pricing is a bit higher then then Navionics, but it also seems to...

No...they are stored on the device ( you have to purchase the maps)...it is a stand alone unit as long as you download the charts...no cell or wifi is ever needed! To be clear, download Navionics app...

They are doing what I think is the best strategy...embracing it...They just released Garmin Blue Chart Mobile and it is steps above the Navionics app....Garmin is doing everything to make sure that...

Now, download the Navionics app for 9.99, download it (maps) prior to being outside of internet and cell range and you have a decent handheld GPS unit. A 4s or 5 supports GLONASS.

We would love to cruise in the Carribbean..and have (not on our own boat) in the Abacos and the BVI, however that really isnt in the cards for us at this point...long term in another story all...

Yes....well more precise would be we have been looking at several sailboats from 29-32, currently a very clean one has my eye so we will see what happens.
