Re: All in one?

Pretty sure the B&G Zeus can manage it as well, probably the most sail-focussed MFD/plotters out there.

Re: Vhf

Do you not need a license for VHF in the US then? That would explain a lot.

If it flaps, pull on it until it stops.
Point the tiller at the thing scaring you.
Try to stay on the boat.

Enjoy :)

Re: Computer Upgrade

Check out Lubuntu as well, Ubuntu core but cut down, less junk and flashy bits, runs waaay faster on older hardware, and is a little more "Windowsy".

Re: Adado Furler: Need implementation Advice

1. You can't have two sails furled on the furler at once, they support two "halyards" so you don't have to do bare headsail changes if you're race inclined, and you could run paired headsails...

Re: yanmar 1gm10 alternator belt

Mine fortunately only has the one belt. I was hoping to avoid a trip to the boat to get the belt off and then another to put the new one on but I guess that will be the plan.

yanmar 1gm10 alternator belt

Anyone know the specifications of the alt belt? Mine is at the end of adjustment and starting to slip under load. Hoping to use an automotive one rather than the $40+ yanmar want to charge.

Re: mainsail downhaul?

Get it down, throw a couple of ties around it and tidy up once you're all tied up safely. Last few feet have no weight so they don't come down unless you have fancy tracks/cars. When you're solo,...

Re: C&C 35 mk3 Window repair

Silpruf or Sikaflex 295 seem to be a popular and effective choice, there is a good thread (for SA anyway, not too much adult content) here, how i fixed my f-ed up windows - Cruising Anarchy - Sailing...

Re: If you owned more than one sail boat in your life time.

If I could do it over, I wouldn't have my current boat and would still have my old one. Not because of there being anything wrong with her, just that some life changes mean she's not really an ideal...

Re: Need sailing with family advise!

Reef a little earlier if going uphill, 10-12kts true is going to be putting you around 15-17kts apparent, that's a lot for a little boat with not much ballast to counteract it. I used to put a...

Re: Aft stay

The "hanging sheet" is likely a topping lift, a backstay would not normally be attached to the pushpit.

Re: GFO stuffing box packing

I have no idea what is in my stuffing box, but it dripped, always, at rest, underway, permanent wet bilge. I tried adjusting it to not drip at rest, but to drip a bit underway, no joy, it dripped,...

I assume the governor itself is inside the engine...

I assume the governor itself is inside the engine on the QM as it is on the GM series. You need to see if you can see it and give it a wiggle, check it's in the right position etc. If it's a bit...

Re: Not quite runaway Yanmar 2QM20

Governor could be stuck full on, also check if the throttle is actually operating the corresponding lever on the engine.

Re: Problems when reefing Main Sail

Where to start?
The reefing line at the leach of the sail, it should go from the boom, up through the cringle, down through the cheek block and then forward towards the mast (ot sure what you...

Re: Problems when reefing Main Sail

In short, no, you aren't reefing properly and that is the root cause of your problems. You need to rig it properly to start with , and all of a sudden you will realise how easy it is, and how...
