Re: Lake Ontario winter haul options

Correct, sq-ft calculation is LOA x beam.

Re: Lake Ontario winter haul options

My experience so far has been positive. I can report back after I launch in a month or so. The winter package cost last year was 2.80/sq ft. For some reason they considered my cradle "a little too...

Re: Lake Ontario winter haul options

Ship Shape yard in Port Weller is probably the cheapest in the west end of the lake. They have all you need. I decided to give them a try this winter.

med-mooring advise needed

I have just learned that my docking arrangement for this season will be med-mooring style with two lines attached to the pier and two “lazy lines” with permanent anchors attached to floating tires. ...

Re: Virgin Islands Sailing School

I think your expectations are quite reasonable and you will be fine. I ended up with two other guys and they were nice people...although I felt they were treating the course more as an adventure and...

Re: Virgin Islands Sailing School

I did ASA104 with BWSS out of St Thomas in Dec 2012. My experience with them was very good. Excellent instructor and great comfortable boat. A lot will depend on your "classmates" (we heard some...

Re: cheapest mooring in gta

Alexandra Yacht Club also has mooring balls as far as I know. Good location but may also be waitlisted.

I purchased full insurance last year for my new boat and did not have to provide a survey.

Re: cheapest mooring in gta

I looked into getting liability-only last year and the quotes I was given were 90% of full coverage.

Re: cheapest mooring in gta

I like the place but it is quite expensive to join. I am thinking about staying in Port Credit for a while until I can get something in Oakville which would be ideal.

Re: cheapest mooring in gta

We have friends at Aquatic park - it is a PITA to get to on weekends. You cannot drive into the park so you have to bike (~3km) or take their cart which is once an hour and often full. Also the stink...

Re: How do you rate your marina/mooring ?

Up here a marina will run CDN$70-80/ft for the 6-month season, and most have ridiculous waiting lists. This will be my first season with the boat and I am still looking.

Re: Bottom paint advice needed

I am sure the boat has barrier coat since new. Soda blasting and starting over is another option I would like to explore, although it does seem wasteful considering the overall condition is not so...

Re: Bottom paint advice needed

Thanks - this might be exactly what I am looking for if I decide to go that route. Wondering if all this scraping is safe for the original barrier coat?

Re: Bottom paint advice needed

You are right the old paint is still looking good...that and the fact that I hate sanding and dealing with dust are the reasons I am reluctant to do anything serious about it this year...

Are you...

Bottom paint advice needed

Bottom paint on the new to me Beneteau 361 is flaking in spots, probably because of too many layers, and I was wondering what should I do about it before the start of next season. The options are: do...

Re: Canada sales tax on registered boat

This makes sense, thank you. So basically file the new ownership and wait for notice in the mail. Is there any deadline for ownership transfer?

Re: Canada sales tax on registered boat

It is a US-built Beneteau the previous owner bought brand new in Canada. Nothing is being imported or exported, the question is about provincial sales tax aka HST.

Re: Canada sales tax on registered boat

Thanks for the replies. This is a Canadian boat, not imported. With import it seems to be straightforward.
It is tempting to just ignore it for a while...the only concern is any potential penalties...

Re: Canada sales tax on registered boat

Is there a standard bill of sale form? The one the broker used for the offer was definitely not standard.

Canada sales tax on registered boat

Deep draft for lake Ontario

I know a number of 6-8 ft draft racers on the lake and they do just fine, but would I be comfortable cruising in a 7 ft draft boat? Would that be a limiting factor in trying to find a slip in the...

It looks like I provided some advertisement for the boat by posting details here. It was suddenly sold before I could send my offer. Lesson learned.

If the new owner is reading this - I would be...

Re: Buying neglected boat

I would probably classify that as "abuse" rather than "neglect", especially hatches left open.
