SOS vs MUSTANG
I''ve not found any reliable evidence that one is any better than the other. A West Marine label would not idicate anything significant as far as I can tell either.
I think between the two price...

If you want to use it a lot on board. I suggest you find a direct 12 volt adapter and avoid using an inverter plus an A/C converter to power the laptop. My boat has plenty of 12 volt sockets and I...

utm vs lat/long
UTM and Lat/Long are almost interchangeable. It''s just the unit of measure.
What you find is that not all charts come in both units of measure. Sometimes they come only one way or another. The...

Ladder question
As to fashion and function. One thing about the Mystic ladder is it is all 316 Stainless. That alone adds a lot to the cost. Were you to drop to chromed steel that won''t last you caould get the same...

Wi-Fi as in 802.11a,b,g is pretty much not available. It takes direct line of sight access. For anything really long (more than 100 yards) beyond that it takes a directional antenna to a fixed...

Ladder question
I just had one made this year. It''s a midship track mounted folder ladder three sections 70 inches long with 5 steps.
The standoffs fold in and secures to the top lifeline with room to walk past....

Mine was built as part of a custom canvas package. I think a custom fit is worth the money. You''ll get good seals and fewer leaks.
Make sure you order Gortex thread as anything else won''t last...

I would say a whole lot more is known about fibreglass and the assorted other asspects of building boats now vs. 20 years ago.
In your question you ask "everything being equal". It''s never that...

I would nOt use treated canvas. You really want to get a good marine fabric. All your work will turn to trash from the UV. Also suggest you use GorTex thread it won''t rot in the UV.
I just spent...

Anyone using Allstate for boat insurance?
One thing to note is that insurance underwriting is done on a state by state basis. Here in Virginia I use Allstate for everything cars, house, and boat. Great boat rates! The 100 miles off shore...

Consider this. If I buy a boat in Florida I pay no Florida taxes when I bring it back to Virgina within 60 days. I do however pay VA tax and personal property tax when I bring it home. Who cares...

Suggest diesel for sure. Kubota has about the best engine for a genset these days. Several vendors will use them. Expect to pay a little more for small size and lighter weight diesels.

Paying no St. Martin taxes is a small plus. Important issues would be getting sufficient papers to prove clear title outside the country. You may want to sail to other countries<g>.

I would say a 9 - 10 ft slip that far up the bay is far more than a premium.
