Re: Surveyor recommendations, Annapolis?

I've used David Manning several times and he is, without doubt, the best surveyor I've ever used.

Re: Galvanic Isolator

I just installed one on my Freedom. I unscrewed the 30 amp receptacle from the boat and pulled it free (with wires still attached). I removed the ground wire and butt spliced a long piece of green...

Re: Raymarine compatible transducers?

The Airmar web site has wiring and diagrams that show which wires are used by which companies. I believe that the new e Raymarine units can be connected to NMEA 2000 units. They can only accept one...

Re: Keel Bolt Questions from new owner

I think you do want to get whatever it is off the nuts and bolts at a minimum. Stainless steel is only stainless when it has access to oxygen and those nuts don't seem to.

Re: Fuel tank longevity

When I looked into the cost of a new aluminum tank for my 31 last year, the prices ranged from about $500 (from the guy who built the original tanks in CA) to about $1,200 in Annapolis.

As to...

Re: Fuel tank longevity

I stuck a plain old digital camera in my tank through the inspection port and got great photos.

Re: PSC 31 (reluctantly) for sale

My boat is seriously for sale now and I've posted a bunch of photos here: 1990 Pacific Seacraft 31 sailboat for sale in Maryland (http://www.sailboatlistings.com/view/33741)

I'll honor the lower...

Re: Lazy Bag for sail cover?

I built the Sailrite kit for my 31. The DVD directions are very good and the end product is a pleasure to use.

Re: Checkin' In.

H3:

Welcome aboard. You're correct: references to the PSC 31 are (generally) to the Bill Crealock-designed Pacific Seacraft 31.

PSC 31 (reluctantly) for sale

I've been a serial boat restorer for the past 10 years and, somewhat to my surprise, I find that I've run out of steam. This is partly due to the fact that my sailing and restoration buddy (my son)...

Re: Full vs partial battened main

I bought a fully battened main for my 31 from Rolly Tasker in Thailand (via a US agent). A fully battened main makes up somewhat for my less than perfect sail trim skills. The quality of the sail is...

Re: overhead zippers

I have the same issue on my 31. Rather than trying to install a new slider, I have been thinking about simply installing a thin teak batten on top of the zipper to hold everything in place.

Re: Bronze name plates ("badges") for Pacific Seacraft

I checked with Thumper about a year ago and they did not have any badges. I have a photo of the badge on a 34 or 37 (the one my son used to create a CAD drawing for my stainless model), but I can't...

Re: Bronze name plates ("badges") for Pacific Seacraft

Why are you replacing them if they're bronze? Bronze doesn't rust/decay/etc. On my 1990 31, they were made of pot metal and virtually disintegrated after 20 years in Florida. My son made CAD...

Re: pacific seacraft 34 hull restore

I spent the (thankfully warm) winter acid cleaning, then wet sanding (three different grits), then compounding, then polishing and finally waxing the hull of my 1990 31. It literally looks new, but...

Re: pushing her hard

That's very impressive, Steve. I was sailing on Wednesday on a Beneteau 393 heeled like that. Unfortunately, the wind was 15 kts and we were going sideways.

Re: PSC 31 access to transom locker

Steve:

That's odd. The pump under the sink in the head of my 31 (no. 55) is for the ice box drain. My shower sump pump is roughly in the same place as Elan's. Where is your ice box drain pump?...

Re: ps 31 water tank leak

Elan:

Search the archives; this has come up before. I think you'll find that your 31 does have a plywood top to the aft water tank. I don't think there is an actual tank in there; it is the hull...

You're right; two coats of the Natural doesn't give a very even look to my teak; I'll apply a third tomorrow.
