Re: Starting from Scratch, want to bareboat in BVI in the spring...need advice

As a charter boat owner, I personally wouldn't want someone on my boat if their only experience was a few courses and limited experience outside of that. It's not that difficult, but without...

Re: Don't be so hard on the new guys

Regarding backing up to it, if there is enough room, there is another option. Come at it down wind. You can control how you approach it and come in very slow so that you can go into reverse and...

Re: Charter fleet ownership

This is not true for all charter programs. Yes, many are like this, but there are also guaranteed programs like Moorings and Sunsail (as well as a few others) where they cover all the costs during...

Re: Charter fleet ownership

I think its pretty simple. It's about the numbers and...

Re: St. Thomas - Road Town Ferry Service

I don't think you'll have a problem getting a taxi. The 2 times we've taken the ferry we did pre-pay, but we're not going to if we take it again. Last time, we could have been on a different ferry...

Re: St. Thomas - Road Town Ferry Service

Your best bet is to not buy tickets until you are there. Buy them for the next ferry that is leaving - this way you aren't sitting around waiting and can take the next ferry.

Re: Newbie Question - AC?

I assume by now, you must have your boat by now.

I'll add though, for anyone else that may view this that A/C is really dependent on the person and their preference for it. There's no right or...

Re: BVI: Alternative to Full Provisioning

And it's best not to rush things. Check the entire boat over and make sure everything is working. Flush each head, run the shower, check that it drains..etc. Better to find an issue at the dock...

Keep in mind that the time of year you have previously been to the BVI and go dictates the crowds.

BVI in October is much quieter and we've been in deserted coves there that time of year.

I...

Our first 2 trips we provisioned with the moorings provisioning options. It worked out well both times, but we did have food left over. A lot less the second trip. 3rd trip we used Sunsail...

If you could go with 2 boats and 1 skipper, that would mean someone from your group would be skippering the 2nd boat.

So why not go with 1 boat and no skipper?

This way you'd only need a boat...

That's a decent option.

We've always just had everyone write their name on any receipts and put it in a binder. At the end of the trip I've tallied it all up.

This option definetely sounds...

There is a disadvantage and its not a big deal depending on the time of year. If you buy through an owner, you do not get any time refunds if there are issues. So if you went during hurricane...

I have used the Moorings and Sunsail (I now own a boat in Sunsail). I've found both to be top notch and the boats to be well maintained. There are issues (each trip has had at least one) but they...

The best advice, especially when manuevering the boat in tight quarters or docking is to take it slow.

I'm not sure where its better to start, but I can say the Moorings and Sunsail are both great to deal with and both have locations in Greece. If they are as good in Greece as they are in the BVI...
