Re: ASA 101 Prep?

Good luck & have fun! I took the 101 challenge, & the admiral did the 101-104 course in April. As others have said, read the book & be able to understand / answer the review questions. Hopefully the...

Re: Camp stove on a boat

John,
I've used Optimus & MSR stoves while mountaineering. While Optimus has a little more stability, I would not suggest either. The cartrige stoves have a high center of gravity & will tip over if...

Re: Between 2...

Lauriana,
If you are in Florida, or where ever you are, try to rent a boat that size for the day. Sail it around, then have lunch on it. After that figure out how/where you would sleep & try it out....

Re: Vinyl Boat Lettering / My Favorite Source

I used a local sign shop in the heart of NASCAR country. The custom name graphics & registration numbers turned out great, with a good price too!

Congrats on the purchase! I had a 8.0 & sailed on a 7.9 in the next slip. I had to rebed stancions & deal with gel cracks at the bases. Mine had the OMC Saildrive. The 8.0 was a tank; 7.9 much...

Re: Morgan 38's and 42's .... or ???

malyea,
The Morgan 383/384 is at the top of my list. Joined by the CS40, Pearson 424 sloop, & Cal 40. As with all "older" boats, there are age related things to look for & consider. The newer (90s)...

Re: New, Buying first sail boat!!!!

Creel,
Lake Norman (Cornelius) is my prior home. It is a great lake & there are many experienced sailors there. I had an 8 meter S2, & kept it at my condo in Vineyard Point. If you're looking for...

Re: What stops Americans cruising the world?

Nostrodamus,
Happy Birthday!
I had someone in New Zealand ask me almost the same question back in 1985. I love to travel, experience other cultures, visit historical sights.
I can't speak for...

Re: Boat Purchase Timing ??

Re: Modern Optimus/MSR Burner in Sea Swing

Fourth,
Good idea on avoiding the Whisperlight on the boat! I have 2 for mountaineering, but the learning curve was steep. I almost had my tent melted on me by a neighbor who over-primed his stove,...

Boatpoker,
Thanks for the heads-up! It looks like I have another system to learn... I'm glad I started this project early.

Re: CS36 vs Morgan 38x vs Pearson 36-2/365 sloop

eherlihy,
Thanks for your opinion! The CS boats are attractive, with the only negatives being a shallow bilge/ floor rot, & some blistering. The plan is for for S.E. coast / Bahamas to start out....

CS36 vs Morgan 38x vs Pearson 36-2/365 sloop

Greetings,
Here's my first Sailnet post:
My wife & I have narrowed down our search to these 3 models. Hopefully there is someone who has had experience with 2 or all 3 of these.

Use: Liveaboard...
